Sort of interesting but far too many Spanish colloquialisms used without translation so you sort of miss the inferences.. I guess if I was a teen or appreciated ghetto life more it would have been a better read.

Though I didn't read the edition indicated above--it was a 344-page paperback/softcover edition borrowed from my local library--I thought that Paul Theroux's 1975 travelogue debut was very interesting, at times hilarious and quite insightful. His chronicle of his four-month rail odyssey in late 1973 through the world's largest continent includes many destinations and experiences that one probably won't find in travel brochures. Each of the book's thirty chapters carries as its title one of the trains and destinations he rode, and he peppers the book with stories and his impressions of the people he met, and the food he ate, along the way. I was amazed that such a mammoth undertaking--some 15,000 miles (about 24,000 kilometers) on thirty-one trains--was even possible. Through it all Theroux reminds the reader that travel, with all its challenges, can be both broadening and limiting at the same time, and that after a long trip, it's great to be home.

It might take a while to get through this one - my 12-year-old wants to listen to it also

Excellent Heinlein: exploring future cultural changes, especially nontraditional families, with multiple husbands and wives, but more traditional male/female rolls. "Men were men, and women were women" .

But the star of the story is Mark, the giant self aware computer, discovered by the hero when Mark starts to develop a sense of humor and asks our hero to teach it what a joke is, the nature of humor.

I liked this book a little more than the first. And I am already starting to enjoy the next in the series. I enjoyed reading about Bella and Jacob's time together.

I found Gabaldon a little to long winded for me. Some of the things that she wrote about I found myself thinking, did I really need to know this.. and when this kind of thing happens to me I do what I did with this book, got about half way then put it down.

I think they "camped" a bit to long but overall the book was good.

I bought this book for a throwaway price, (Rs 125 or around $3) and after finishing this captivating story, I was wondering why it was so lowly priced. No value for goodness, is there? Women of The Silk follows the life of Pei -from her silent childhood, to the life of a silk worker in 20th century China, chafing under Japanese rule. Weaving in some unforgettable characters, the book has a lyrical, almost musical quality to it. The poetry in it though, is simple. I, for one, can't understand a book that is complicatedly verbose and beyond my limited vocabulary. But Gail choses her words with care - and that care makes one drawn into the story. All presented against a backdrop of old China as it is scarcely portrayed now.

Without a doubt, one of the best books I have read this year. Brave, uplifting, and different. Pei, Lin, Chen Ling - their struggle for independence a touching tribute to friendship. There are too many books on China these days - but this is exceptional.

Overly long for a children's book, but I enjoyed it as an adult too - there was something mildly heartwarming about reading a book that spoke of an English countryside inhabited by an old man and a dog. We all love that, don't we?

Just didn't appeal to me - apart from the odd smile, this book was an utter waste of time

A sweeping work, I am not sure I understood everything. A novel that requires that much understanding - it is strange, affecting and oddly gripping.

I am a bit surprised with myself here. I thought I would LOVE this book. But I was a bit lost in the end. Fascinating insight into a wonderful personality, but the diaries itself lacked a little bit of coherence to me.

Such an amazing tale, it had me gripped. It's not just a novel of love, but there is a touching poignancy and a sense of melancholy that elevates it. Superb.

I could not get into the heart of the book, pun unintended. Didion writes beautifully of her grief but I found myself jagged back and forth between memories past and shifts into the present. Too many names just thrown in...well hard for me to like.

An amazing exploration of absurdist philosophy - this is truly a master at work.

Not really a pulse racer for me - readable enough but I really could not imagine a dog espousing Darwinism...didn't hit it for me.

Touching book - Betty Smith's language is wonderfully readable - it is the story of a marriage - a story of one year in the marriage - but it is really Annie's character which stood out the most for me

Thrilling, racy story that had me in tears most of the time. If a book were a movie, it doesn't come any better than this.

Chuckled and laughed by way through this enthralling book. Just the sort of light read that I needed on a dark gloomy Sunday

loved it. The characters stayed in my mind...and there is a freshness to the story, a tightness to the plot that makes you want to turn the pages ....through the night as i did.
