One of a small series of mysteries written by a husband/wife writing pair who eventually lived in West Virginia and set some stories. However, this one is set in New York City where the protagonist Hume is a successful illustrator of storoes for magazine; a lot of interesting (at least to me) detail o his the illustrations I enjoy in the magazines of the period were selected and produced; the title refer to the four-color process then ysed for printing color illustration. The story opens with the murder of the unpleasant art director of Syncro, a major fiction magazine --he is killed with a knufe strikingy similar to one Hume had used in one of his illustrations, so he is a suspect and sets out to clear himself.
