Crisp, very well written memoir of author's upbringing and how his change of attitude, with a little good luck thrown in, led to his part in his attempt to save some of his fellow soldiers who were outnumbered and entrapped. His actions, along with being one of the few survivors, resulted in the Medal of Honor award. Actually, the notable thing was his being left for dead twice in his military career and yet somehow surviving. The theme of him being a fighter for his country involved his fighting for his own life and, sadly near the end of his life, US governmental bureaucracy.… (más)
