- Minister, song writer, president of Arkansas College, and author of the biographies of Knowles Shaw and Walter Scott. He graduated at Bethany College in 1945.
William Baxter (1820-1880) is on the Tiers' Portraiture. He was a fine writer and his biography of Walter Scott (1874) was the only one written for many years. He also wrote a biography of Knowles Shaw titled, "The Singing Evangelist." (1879). Baxter was also a very fine poet...Perhaps Baxter's most popular book today is "Pea Ridge and Prairie Grove; or, Scenes and Incidents of the War in Arkansas." (1864). ---Terry Gardner
