This is an easy read for my 5-year-old, though he still prefers me to read it to him. Love that they incorporate characters from the TV show, but make it an original story!

Buddy was adopted into a family of Pterandons, but isn't sure what species of dinosaur he is so in this beautifully animated series, he travels on the Dinosaur Train through time to figure out what he is. This sweet show has a lot of humor to do it combined with a lovely visual so that a young preschool would be able to learn about dinosaurs while also watching characters of their own age. Throughout the show, small lessons are scattered from showing how everyone is different to looking at how many tickets are needed. The story itself is charming because Buddy is outgoing and curious and wants to learn and explore and so as he goes to new places and times, the audience learns with him. Buddy has been born into a family of Pteranodons, but he doesn't look the same. . .time to hop on the Dinosaur Train to learn about other dinosaurs and the value of being yourself.
This show does a nice job of being entertaining without being overbearing. There are bright colors everywhere, and the time-traveling Dinosaur Train is an exciting way to link things together. There are lots of nice details, like counting out tickets, to recommend it. The most educational part is the paleontologist at the end who reinforces everything learned during the pervious segment without being overbearing. They even have children of different ages pronounce the dinosaur names so the viewer can get it right.
Overall, it's a fun show that pre-kindergarten children, especially boys, will enjoy!
