Marius Barbeau (1883–1969)

This scholarly 338 page work prints 40 stories in English and in the phonetic Native texts with literal translations. The book ends with 14 plates of portraits of descendants of the Wendat, an archival source in its own right.

Intended as a tourist souvenir of Quebec, this collection of black and white photographs with brief text is a valuable historical record, published in 1957. From images of the first settlements in New France to modern day landmarks, buildings, and works of art, this is an interesting record of the traditional Quebec before the "quiet revolution".
