Ella has been bullied ever since she started a new high school. She is there on scholarship and made to feel unwelcome and unwanted and a "charity" case by the more privileged students who run wild and do as they please, knowing there will be no consequences brought against them by the ineffective principal. One day this bullying goes too far and Ella is left locked in a closet over night. After this incident she begins having nightmares and waking with injuries she didn't have when she went to sleep. Her only friend Kyla wants revenge on Ella's behalf but Ella is feeling helpless and hopeless and does not want to name her attackers. As Kyla begins acting more hostile and Ella's problems begin to escalate we learn the truth about this friendship and a tragic past that could not be escaped. I thoroughly enjoyed this taut psychological thriller.

So i just got reading Skin Deep by T.G. Ayer, its the first book I've read by this author. With this being the first book I've ever read from Ayer, and this being the first book in the series, I think it's time to start my review.

Kailin a alpha panther shifter and wraith Hunter, lives an almost solitary life; except for the few friends she has and her job and the counseling center. One night after a wraith fight, Kailin comes across a horrific sight. Someone being thrown out of a car at high speed, she goes to check on the person. Only to find out it's a skinned alive panther or walkers as they call themselves. From here Kailin is on a mission to find out who is killing walkers as well as other shifters. While going through this she meets Logan the youngest member of Omega, a sector in the police department for abnormal things. They end up working together on this, while also forming a connection personally.

The description is pretty vague, and there is a reason for this. So much goes on in this book, giving away too much details will hinder the quality of the book. But I did enjoy this book, though it took me a while to read this, due to video games. Dang that Call of Duty, hangs my head. But no seriously it's good.the only drawback I have is that Kailin only shifts fully once in this book. Otherwise no complaints here.

A light, fun read with interesting characters and a world I'd like to learn more of. I was particularly taken with Ayer's version Fenrir.
Overall, I enjoyed this book, and I might pick up the next in the series. I really did enjoy the world and watching Bryn's growth throughout the story. Unfortunately there were several places that shook my suspension of disbelief (mainly where characters seemed to have far to easy a time accepting their world being turned upside down) and a few continuity issues. Like when Bryn seemed to planning to escape Asgard at the earliest opportunity, and then out of no where is thinking that she misses the real world, but wouldn't go back because it's so much better to have purpose in her life, the way she does in Asgard.

Folks who enjoy new takes on old myths will enjoy this one, and the romance between Bryn and Aidan is often very sweet.

Blood Magic is an exhilarating introduction into the DarkWorld: Should Tracker series by T.G. Ayer. It grabs you from the get go. It’s an action-packed fast-paced mystery that keeps you on your toes. I couldn’t put it down.

I throughly liked the idea, mystery, and scenarios that played out in this story along with the supernatural twists.

Mel, I liked. Her character was easy to connect to. She’s enjoyable, appealing, can get out of most situations, magical, capable, and has some great friends plus a background that is just beginning to be told. She is strongly dedicated to what she does and won’t give up on those she made promises too. She puts everyone before herself and her abilities are unique and rare. Those abilities that she has where very intriguing. It just added to Mel’s uniqueness.

The secondary characters where captivating. I really enjoyed her little gang she has and the love interest that shows up. It was fascinating to find out what and who this love interest is. Though we have a love interest and these awesome friends, our main focus is on solving the mystery and rescuing a little girl.

We do get a few questions answered, yet more questions come up. The ending left me wanting the next book now, so I could dig deeper into the mystery that is left open and those questions still unanswered.

A few things did bother me. Her abilities or at least one was to be a secret, yet I felt everyone knew about it. I also felt like to many things where left open. To many questions at the end.

Blood Magic is a riveting urban fantasy full of mystery that keeps you guessing. I had a delightful time reading and can’t wait to get my hands on book two and find out what happens next.

Rated: 4 Stars
