Mary Atwool

This is an exhibit book at the National Library of New Zealand. The National Library had long had a program of providing children's books to the nation's schools,an important extension service acknowledged in this book. There are very, very good illustrations from the books in the exhibit. There is a chapter about the magazine, School Journal, founded in 1907 and some illustrations reprinted in color from the publication.

This is not a book about New Zealand children's authors. Books came from the United States and Great Britain, and of course any of the parents of the child readers had recently immigrated from Britain. I was expecting a book about Kiwi authors.… (más)
