Maybe I read a totally different (i.e. earlier, unedited) ARC of this book because some of the 4 star reviews simply don't match up to what I'm reading on my kindle!

There was no preachy introduction - there was no introduction at all, really, just straight into "action" with no explanation of what or why. The writing was a little too choppy and awkward - like a badly made movie - with short sentences, long descriptions that didn't actually weren't. For the first 50 pages, I could not track what was going on - lots of info that didn't quite make a story. Really, it read like a very early draft where you might be blocking scenes and aren't ready to flesh out the dialogue.

*sigh* I absoutely HATE to give a negative review, because people's tastes are so different and I don't want to put someone off a book that they may potentially love.
However, I had such a hard time reading this book and it was a struggle to finish (and i confess, I didn't, I wanted to edit it instead.)

I think it has a really good premise, but the execution fell short.

The Face Transplant takes you for a great ride! This is a clean, fast paced mystery. R. Arundel creatively details the characters that interact so well with each other as surprises and challenges come their way. Matthew leads the drama and I really liked him. His team travels all over the world to solve the dilemma they find themselves in after a face transplant goes wrong. I could visualize where they were and what was happening in each scenario, a very good quality for a first time writer. The circumstances that occur could happen in the future and probably are in place now. The plot is clearly thought out and drives the movement of the book. I stayed up to read this one. I will be watching for future books from this author! I highly recommend reading this fascinating book, The Face Transplant!

I received a copy of this book by Net Galley for an honest review which I have given.

The Face Transplant is a very good story. It is the writing that made it so hard to read. I have never read a book written like this one and it made it very confusing and annoying. The name of the person that was going to speak was written then a comma then what the person said. This made conversations between characters challenging to read. It was like the book was never edited.

The story is about Dr. Matthew MacAulay who is a surgeon who specializes in facial transplants. When his best friend and mentor Tom is killed Matthew is determined to find out who did it. Now Matthew has got himself into bigger trouble than he knows while trying to get justice for his friend. He is now on the run from individuals determined to kill him also. Alice a supercomputer that seems more like a human then a computer helps Matthew along with Sarah an anesthesiologist, Andy the director of the Facial Transplant Program and Kofi Adebayo who also works at the transplant facility working on computers and other things Helps Matthew with possibly (cannot say for sure) bringing down the mad and corrupt people involved.

The story itself is very interesting. The concept of future science that is written is something that will get you thinking and a little unnerved. Face transplants and what that could be used for is endless. Someone commits a crime would they steal your face to get away with it? Plus other advanced weapons in the book are very interesting. This book is a fast thriller always keeping you on your toes until the end. It is full of twist and turns and full of surprises.

"Thank You NetGalley for allowing me to give an honest review"

I want to thank Netgalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book.

I really enjoy debut authors so I wanted to give Dr. Arundel encouragement by rating the book a 4 star. Why 4 stars? Because I was interested in the different topic of facial transplants and tired of ho-hum thrillers of maligned lovers and sadistic murders. The book, needs serious edits and probably would be better rated a 3 star. It was a really rainy day here on the mountain and I was entertained by the book.

The story took some interesting and highly improbable twists but I thought the mountain climbing/avalanche scene was a bit too much. Having said that, as an avid backpacker, I enjoyed the descriptions of the terrain and had flashbacks to some wintry moments on mountains of my own.

I think the author tried to make the perfect mystery/thriller and have just too many twists and turns that really led no where new in the story. Much like the best country and western song that has a drunk, jail, Momma and more, this story trimmed down and made a little more real might make it. Let's hope it gets cleaned up and released.
