Howie Abrams

H.R. (née Paul Hudson), frontman for the best ever American punk band, is a man of many complexities. His struggle with mental illness over the last decade makes this a document of some import in the present moment. Interviews with family, friends, contemporaries from the DC scene and the man himself relate the life and times of H.R. and Bad Brains, from a peripatetic childhood to teenage rebellion in post-riot DC to the emergence of a wholly original musical force. Loud and fast was only part of it. More than a few bookish white kids coming of age in the stifling suburbia of 1970s USA had their vision enlarged for good by that yellow ROIR cassette. Reading about it 35 years later demystifies it a bit, but also brings back memories of how good it felt at the time.… (más)
