It hurts my eyes to look at the colors used together and the high contrast look, but damn is the artwork effective. I'm not attached to any characters yet, but it looks like it's going for a "monster of the week" thing with the premise of a greater vampire tasked with hunting down all of the lesser vampires he has previously turned. The first volume might not have sunk its hooks into me yet (you thought I was going to say "teeth," didn't you?) but it has potential!… (más)

Intriguing.
A space opera in a world where collusion between a religious order and a galaxy spanning corporation. Hard to describe, but filled with intriguing ideas and beautiful art.
A space opera in a world where collusion between a religious order and a galaxy spanning corporation. Hard to describe, but filled with intriguing ideas and beautiful art.
Absolutely beautiful in both art and text. The gender politics of this world are fascinating and extremely well developed and tastefully explored. The prose style is unique in the comic medium, in my experience at least. The only dialogue in the series is between gods, the rest is told in Homeric verse by an omnipotent narrator. The lack of speech bubbles is fascinating and a bit jarring to begin with, but the interplay of the narration with the art is truly stunning and worth every moment.

The story line is pretty great, is often humorous, and has moments of wisdom. Christian Wards art is mostly wonderful, full of vivid and popping color work although some of the action scenes of quite busy.
If you love action-oriented, space capers - you'll love this. Check it out.… (más)
