The longer I think about this book, the angrier I get. The first page of this tale is written in present tense, which is unusual for a children's book so it caught my attention. Then, inexplicably, when I turned the page I was transported to the past via verb conjugation but it looked just like the present. This. Is. Not. Allowed. There are Rules! Conventions! Children do not need to be given books that will confuse their ability to properly conjugate, especially given the number of irregular verbs the English language is blessed with.

The story and illustrations are perfectly cute but the writing is sloppy and awkward and I would cringe if I ever tried to read it to a child.

I was sent this book by the publisher in exchange for my brutally honest review.

This story is sweet. I reminds me of the story “The Boy who Cried Wolf” when Gertrude and Toby see a little boy. The boy say he see a wolf. If you know that fairy tale story. The moral of the story you think this story is going be somewhat like that.

It also features another story or fairy Tale which is called “The Three Little Pigs”. The author does wonderful with mixing it a bit with the two starting with “The boy who Cried Wolf” scenes and then somewhat changed it to add the “The Three Little Pigs” scenes. The ending is done cute as well.

My favorite is the artwork that is done. The pictures are drawn well. I really like that. They look like some took the time to draw the scene and the the wording was put together after. Who will win their fishing contest?

This is a very interesting premise. Gertrude and Toby live on a farm and when the farmer and his son go off to the fair, they decide to go and explore. This is where the story meets fairytale land. As they are walking they see a magic carpet, they meet up with Hansel and Gretel and actually join forces with the magic carpet to save The Gingerbread Man from a Giant. It is a cute story that kids who have heard the fairytales will probably think is pretty neet. The only problem I have is that after they rescue the Gingerbread Man, there is suddenly a Market Owner who allows the homeless Hansel and Gretel to come and live with him and Toby and Gertrude head back to the farm. Not sure about that ending. As this was a pre-published copy of the book, the illustrations were roughed in, but not complete so I am not sure what they will look like as far as colours go, but the sketches are nice and complement the story.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book is my daughter's favorite Gertrude and Toby. It's an easy read with an engaging story of these faithful friends. Getting themselves in and out of scrapes over and over in this remix of children stories.

I read this book to my little sister and we both really enjoyed it. I like the spin on some fairy tales and the illustrations are so cute and funny. This is the first of the adventure series I read and my sister has asked if we can get the rest, she's a big fan.

Gertrude and Toby are off for another Friday Adventure! This time they are going fishing at Trout Lake. However, they are constantly being interrupted by a young boy shouting that a wolf is coming. Finally, the young boy is caught by the wolf. Gertrude and Toby decide to help the boy, but end up leading the wolf straight to his favorite meal, the three pigs!

One more amusing adventure for Gertrude and Toby, this time combining the fairy tales of The Boy Who Cried Wolf and The Three Little Pigs. I loved that Gertrude and Toby continue to show that friends can have differences and that teamwork is best. This unlikely pair also shows ingenuity for the silly problems that they tend to get into. My little one loved the colorful but simple pictures of the comical animals.

This book was received for free in return for an honest review.

This is a good story about working together to help your self and others--together we're better. It would also work nicely in a study of the Three Little Pigs and related books. This book gives another twist to that story.

Fairy tale retellings have become very popular. Shari Tharp has created the Gertrude and Toby series which opens up this genre to young readers.

In book three, Gertrude and Toby meet the boy who cried wolf and not surprisingly eventually encounter a wolf. This wolf soon ties the story in with the tale of the three little pigs. Jim Heath's howling wolf against the backdrop of a cloudy moon probably sets young readers' knees to knocking. This is the scariest of the books thus far, but even the original fairy tales were a little fearsome at times. The wolf who declares his fondness for pigs finds that he must settle for cooking up some "little boy stew" in his black cauldron. When the third little pig suggests an offering of turtle soup to satiate the wolf, "'I declare,' squeaks Toby, 'I'm a tortoise.'"

The Gertrude and Toby series is a refreshing twist on the classics that should be enjoyed by young and old alike.

Hop on for a magic carpet ride with Gertrude and Toby and Hansel and Gretel. Feel the excitement as the partners attempt to save a gingerbread man from the jaws of death. That big ol' giant had to gum down his cookies for his lack of teeth.

Shari Tharp and Jim Heath have joined forces again to create another wonderful children's book that combines a goat and tortoise and some other children's fairy tale characters. The expressions on Gertrude and Toby's faces as Farmer Sam and Ryan try to shove a prize pig into a trailer to transport to the county fair are priceless. Kids probably won't be afraid of the "Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum" bellering giant after seeing him napping and awakening with a big stretch.

"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Gertrude asked.
"Indeed," responded Toby. "our books are amazing adventures filled wonder and magic."

What a fun read! I loved the behhhing goat named Gertrude and the wise old tortoise named Toby. There are references to the stories "Little Red Riding Hood", "The Frog Prince", "Snow White", "Jack and the Beanstalk" and "The Gingerbread Man". Gertrude and Toby's Friday Adventure is a great stand-alone story even if a child doesn't have knowledge of the other fairy tales.

Since reading this book, I have found that Shari Tharp has also published Gertrude and Toby Save the Gingerbread Man and Gertrude and Toby Meet the Wolf. I plan to buy all three from Amazon and have them sent to my grand-kids. I am disappointed that I can't find the books to order from Follett. I would love to purchase all three in hardbound for some of my library customers at school. I will keep checking back and hope that they become available.

Jim Heath has created comical and colorful illustrations that add humor to this story. Shari Tharp has created a rollicking adventure. I think kids will love it.

Gertrude and Toby met includes several well-known fairy tale characters on their adventure. It introduces the concept of paying for what you get and asking for help when needed. The pleasant drawings will interest younger children.

LibraryThing Member Giveaway randomly chose me to receive this book free from the publisher. I was under no obligation to write a review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

This was a really cute well illustrated little book. My kids really enjoyed the story and the illustrations were terrific. They really enjoyed all the fairy tale characters that made an appearance during the adventure. I believe both kids are very interested in the next book as well. I think this series has great promise and that many little children will enjoy it for a long time.

I really enjoyed this cute little story. It was adorable, and I just loved the aspects of fairy tales that were added in. I would highly recommend this book for adults with young children. It would definitely be the book that I would read to younger family members or children that I babysit because it is a wonderful little story, with characters children could love. It's the kind of book that children could even possibly find funny because it has that hint of silliness about it, which is what makes it such a cute read. The illustrations were wonderful, and I just think they added a nice touch to the story.

Such an adorable book! I loved the illustrations they really help make the story. Thought Toby's buzz cut was hilarious. It's a quick, fast-paced adventure with lots of twists. When it was over I found myself wishing it was longer. It was nice to see some familiar fairytale characters as well. I would've liked to have known what happened with the magic beans since they sprout near the end but I'm assuming that's for the next adventure. I'm hooked! My niece is going to love this.

This was the first Gertrude and Toby book that we've read. My daughter enjoyed it, but I think we'll need to read the 1st book in the series to understand the characters better. It was fun to see the Gingerbread Man and Hansel and Gretel mixed into the adventure. Fairy Tale characters that my daughter already knows about help make the story more interesting.

My kindergartner daughter enjoyed this book, and so did I. It's kind of fun to see what Fairy Tale characters Gertrude and Toby will meet each book. The pictures are good and the story is funny. I like seeing the similarities between the books in the series, and getting to know the characters better.

I won a copy of Gertrude and Toby Meets the Wolf by Sheri Tharp from Librarything.com. A so so I am not required to post a positive review just my honest opion about the book. I want to add that the illistrations are well designed for youth. This is the third book in the series but did not need to read the other two to understand the ideas of the story. This reminded me of The Froggy Books how my children loved them so much I believe Gertrude and Toby books should be in Early education classrooms prek and kindergarden reading story to teach friendship. I also think it is a wonderbook that will keep the younger audience attension with the amazing pictures. thank you for sharing your book Shari Tharp.
