This is my first introduction to Stella Reid, aka Granny Reid and her seven grandchildren and all the inhabitants of McGill, Georgia. It seems this series will be a spinoff prequel to the Savannah Reid series. (Savannah is Granny’s oldest grandchild).
This story flashes back to the 1980s when Stella happens upon a dying woman and is caught up in the investigation into her murder.
Stella is a feisty widow in her 50’s who is trying to help raise her grandchildren because her daughter-in-law (Shirley) is an alcoholic and Stella’s son is a truck driver who would rather not be home.
There are interesting and likable supporting characters in the story, like Flo Bagley and Elsie and Sheriff Manny Gilford. Almost everyone in town respects Stella as she is honest, humble and caring.

The story moves quickly and the there are sufficient plot twists. A cute story with an admirable protagonist.

Stella Reid, Granny Reid, is taking care of her 8 grandchildren because of her no-good son and his wife who is in jail. She is best friends with the local sheriff, Manny Goldford. Together they work to solve a murder.
This is a very different cozy mystery book and what a great difference. It is based in a small town in Grorgia. My first read by this author.
Stella is taking care ot her grandangels, as she calls them and this book has so many personal features with all of the grandkids as well as the other characters. The book seems to welcome one into the home and friendship Stella has with Manny and Elsie, a good friend. It is a heartwarming book with some joy, some tears, and murder. It puts the reader into Georgia with so many saying the people in the South use. I am from Texas and loved them.
I saw this book on shelf at my library and plan to read more of this author, G. A. McKevrtt.
I gave it a 5 star rating.

Southern charm and familial love practically spill from the pages of this story. Granny Stella is caring for her 8 grandangels and loving every minute of it, but even a granny as dedicated as she is needs a break now and then. She finds some diversions from her chores when she is with Sheriff Manny Goldford, and not just in helping him solve crimes. There is a definite spark between these two old friends, but first, they need to solve a couple of murders and some drug dealing. Along the way, they help Waycross, who is feeling low because a mean girl said some hurtful things to him, and Savannah, who is cautioned about a not-very-nice boy she has a crush on. Some dangerous dealings are going on in this mostly lovely southern town, but it just takes one bad apple, or maybe a couple, to spoil things, and put people in danger. This fourth installment in the Granny Reid Mystery series may just be the best one yet. It’s storytelling at its best, with a well-written plot and delightful characters. I am so looking forward to the next mystery - please write faster, Ms. McKevett!… (más)

I really like this book. I like the characters and appreciate them going through some ethical questions. Can't wait to read the next one.
