The personal account by FDR's ambassador to Mexico, including his support for Mexico's nationalizing of Shell and Standard Oil by President Lazaro Cardenas. This led to Mexico's breaking relations with Britain, and increased friendship with FDR.

440. The Wilson Era Years of Peace--1910-1917, by Josephus Daniels (read 5 July 1952) I read this in 1952 and on July 3, 1952 said of it: "The book is ineptly written and shows no real perspicacity or insight. It is a collection of stories and superficial accounts of self or Wilson laudatory actions. It does feed in me, though, an intense interest in the old North Carolina men who were in Congress then--Claude Kitchin, Ed. Pou, Furnifold McLean Simmons, Lee Overman, etc.

Could have done with better editing. Pedestrian writing which made it hard to get to know who Mr. Wilson really was. Disappointing because of that.
