Are there tangible benefits in flossing? Is it wrong to fake orgasms? What does the perfect online dating ad look like? Should we bother doing the ironing? Is it really impossible to buy the perfect Christmas gift? (Other than this book, of course.) Economists might not be the first people you would think of to give you advice on such diverse areas as parenting, the intricacies of etiquette or the dark arts of seduction. But for years bestselling author Tim Harford has been doing just that: answering the most challenging questions in his brilliant column, where he uses the tools of economics to give practical advice about everyday dilemmas, conundrums and concerns. From family rows and the stock market to buying socks or speed dating, you'll find within these pages a witty - and of course rational - explanation for almost everything you ever wanted to know about life.… (más)

Totalmente decepcionante. ( )

Although not as great as The Undercover Economist, this collection of Harford's column in FT still entertaining. Some answers are highly original and funny. The answer to a nigerian fraud spam is simply hilarious... :-) ( )

If you subscribe to the Financial Times, there's no need to get this book. It's a compilation of Harford's columns from there.

He basically takes serious questions (broadly: how should I raise my children, how can I have a successful relationship, how can I get rich, etc.) and answers them with an economics-based joke. As a former econ major, I thought it was hilarious. A little on the light side, sure, but a good coffee-table book. If you don't enjoy economics (or academic wittiness), don't pick this one up. If you're looking for real advice, don't pick this one up.

Do pick it up if you'd like an introduction to some basic (and some esoteric) economic concepts or if you're looking to make interesting cocktail party conversation. ( )

Light holiday reading applying economic theory to everyday questions with dry British humour. ( )

The subtitle of "Priceless Advice" is dead on - you can't help but laugh out loud while reading some of the Undercover Economist's advice. He approaches things from an angle Ann Landers never, ever would. Some of the questions seem planted or that they were intentionally written to elicit a certain response and those fall a bit flat but mostly this book is a great laugh. ( )
