Who doesn't love dinosaurs?! In this 48-page unit, dinosaurs come alive to teach cross-curricular lessons in math, science, language, art and critical thinking. Three activities are outlined for each of four favorite books about dinosaurs, such as Patrick's Dinosaurs by Carol Carrick and The Magic School Bus In the Time of the Dinosaurs by Joanna Cole. There are four pages of reproducible dinosaur cards. The 16 cards each depict a different prehistoric animal in accurate line art. They can be used in several activities, including How Many Syllables Do You Hear? Sentences that Describe, and Dinosaur Concentration. Additional topics include Other Prehistoric Animals, such as the Woolly Mammoth and the Saber-Toothed Tiger, Fossils, and theories about the extinction of dinosaurs. Hands on science and art lessons include Make Fossil Bones, using a plaster of Paris cast, and Three-Dimensional Dinosaurs, which can be made from clay, aluminum foil or pipe cleaners. There are dinosaur riddles, a crosswordpuzzle, activity centers, a bulletin board, patterns for counting and a two-sided, full-color pull-out poster that shows the relative size of various dinosaurs on one side and the skeletons of prehistoric animals on the other. There is a page of teaching suggestions for the poster, a bibliography, and complete, step-by-step instructions for all activities. All pages are perforated for easy removal. Who would have thought you could fit so much about dinosaurs into just one book!… (más)
