I'll be generous and round up since I can't give this 4.5 stars.

One problem with this series is that after 10 books the missions are becoming a bit repetitive. Go there, befriend the children of the suspect (or become their boyfriend or girlfriend), get into a couple of fights against bullies or local toughs to get respect... It seems Muchamore is aware of this and I appreciate his efforts to introduce new elements. Here I really enjoyed Dante's story and having the opportunity to revisit the recruiting process. Sure, Muchamore has to use a flimsy excuse to introduce a new important character that no one had mentioned before (he was away in an extremely long mission), but I can forgive that since I liked his story.

Then we get to the mission itself. The most interesting part was James' subplot infiltrating the Brigands. He is no longer a kid and he can do different things. Dante and Lauren had the usual Cherub role.

I didn't like that for the first time in the series the main mission doesn't end with a defeat of the bad guys. It's a change and adds variety, but it was an anticlimax. However, we'll see more of the Fuhrer in the next book. ( )

This is one of the few books of the series I haven't read before. And for all I've been meaning to - I just haven't gotten around to it.

I enjoyed the first half of the book, but I felt the second wasn't as strong. It was action packed but it never really went anywhere. Particularly since there's no real justice served. There was lots of action but none of it achieved anything - there wasn't any of the usual uncovering of information that normally occurs in this series. I did enjoy that Dante's story runs parallel to James basic training and first missions. It was nice to see how it all intersected and what was happening elsewhere in Cherub. Dante was an alright character. A mini James more or less. I hated the whole Lauren tries to hook up with Dante storyline. Why can't one character in the book be monogamous? Honestly, I think I'm getting too old for this. There's just so much hooking up and breaking up and childish drama and it's a bit too much for my delicate sensibilities. I'm getting old. :( And I've said it before but god do I hate the way women are treated and portrayed in this series. Or maybe I said it about [b:The Escape|4223020|The Escape (Henderson's Boys, #1)|Robert Muchamore|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1419178920s/4223020.jpg|4270419]. Either way, it's rampant in both series and it's disgusting.

Not the usual standards. I hope the next one is better. 3 stars. ( )

on the back of the book is very catchy and i like
bike gang books.

why did i finish it... because it was just getting better
and better and i couldnt think how it would end and it had a
catchy start.

who would i recommend this to... to people 14 and over
because it is really violent and heaps of swearing and
drug use. ( )
