This is the autobiography of a deaf and blind woman who has achieved so much for herself and others. During early childhood she lost both sight and hearing. In quick succession, she developed difficulties with balance, loss of coordination and muscle strength. Secondary schooling was difficult as there were no facilities to accommodate a girl with such disabilities. Her dreams were shattered when she was forced from school to take up work making toilet brushes in a sheltered workshop. Penny remained determined and after finishing high school by correspondence, she went on to complete an astonishing three university degrees. Penny's primary way of communicating with the world is through touch. Braille is paramount to her reading and writing. Without the benefits of sight and sound, people communicate with Penny by touching her hand with a special sign language. In this book, Penny shares with you her unique journey of life.… (más)
