In this Mexican-inspired twist on the tale Little Red Riding Hood, a turtle sets off to take supper to his grandmother. His three friends follow him across the desert and watch as Tortuga meets a coyote. His friends try to warn him that the coyote means to harm him, but he doesn't listen and continues to grandma's house. When he arrives, the coyote is waiting in disguise as his grandma. His friends see the peril Tortuga is in and try to save him by making sounds all over the house, so that Coyote runs away thinking there are monsters. Tortuga and grandma are extremely thankful for the help of the friends and they all share the dinner together.

This is a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. In this version a Tortoise travels to his grandmothers house with a basket on his back--his three friends follow him. A coyote tricks him and almost eats him...but is saved by his three friends who trick the coyote.

Another adaptation of the classic, "Little Red Riding Hood," I actually enjoyed reading this version with only animals. Kids can learn a lot vocabulary in Spanish with this book.

I absolutely adored this book. As someone who has lived in the southwest his whole life, I felt that it really made this story come alive. I loved it. It was so great to see the culture of the southwest represented in a book. ( )

I love that the author took a classic Euro-centric tale, and used the same morals and themes in the context of another culture. This would be a great read aloud book in a classroom with spanish-speaking students - they could help teach the other students what all the Spanish words mean!
