For more than a generation, Rabbi Michael L. Munk, as a sidelight to his busy schedule of educational and communal work, has fascinated audiences with his learned and provocative lectures on the Hebrew alphabet. In the process of opening eyes and raising eyebrows, he has convinced countless people that his contention is true: the Hebrew alphabet abounds in scholarly and mystical meaning. He has developed and proven a profound thesis. The alphabet -- if correctly understood -- is a primer for life. Ethical conduct, religious guidance, philosophical insights, all are nestled in the curls, crowns, and combinations of the Hebrew letters. This is one of those rare books that is both interesting and profound, learned and readable. The wisdom and compassion of the author is evident in those subtle ways that do not intrude on the reader, but give him the satisfaction of knowing that a rich, warm, productive lifetime of experience is flavoring the text.… (más)

This book is a treasure trove of God's intentions in creating the Hebrew Language with each letter of the alphabet containing a message about expectations of how we are to live-out our relationship with the Creator. It reflects one of the many reasons I absolutely fell in love with Biblical Hebrew! ( )

If you are studying Hebrew and want to learn more about the meanings of the individual letters, this is the book for you. The Hebrew alphabet has numeric meaning as well as roots of words based on their combinations. It's fascinating stuff and adds more texture to the text. ( )

NO OF PAGES: 240 SUB CAT I: Hebrew SUB CAT II: Traditions SUB CAT III: DESCRIPTION: From the very first Kabbalistic work, through the Talmud, through an impressive array of rabbinic literature, great minds have found the Aleph-Beis to be a gold mine of wisdom and guidance. This fascinating best-seller weaves these golden threads into a glorious tapestry, presenting hundreds of ideas and comments on the Aleph-Beis, including: the Aleph-Beis as the force of Creation, as a primer for Jewish living, and as a fountainhead of Torah insight and mystical meaning. The product of decades of learning, thinking, and teaching by the revered educator, lecturer, and community activist Rabbi Michael L. Munk. A treat not to be missed.NOTES: SUBTITLE: The Sacred Letters as a Guide to jewish Deed and Thought

Interesting book on the background of the Hebrew AlephBet. Kabbalah concepts are discussed as well as the connection between the letters of the AlephBet. ( )

The Wisdom in the Hebrew Alphabet is a thoroughly erudite elaboration on one of the central themes of the Sefer Yetsirah: God created the Universe by means of the sounds and letters of the Hebrew Aleph-Beit. This book is full of stories, anecdotes, pieces of wisdom and insight derived from rabbinical scholars as well as source materials from Torah, Talmudic and kabbalistic texts. Each letter receives full attention and Rabbi Munk does not refrain from providing the reader with insights into the interaction of letters with one another. Steeped in Judaica, this book is an absolute gem. Being conversant with Hebrew helps, as most of the original text fragments are not transliterated. ( )
