Summary:
The story is about a family of bears who are trying to sleep through a storm. One by one each bear: baby bear, little bear, and young bear get scared of the storm and thing it is a monster. They climb into bed with Bear and Ms. Bear to feel safe. By the end of the night they are all awaken by a sound a the door. Ms. Bear urges Bear to see what the sound was. But when Bear opens the door the wind forces it open and reveals something big and scary outside. Bear believes it could be a monster and hides under the bed. It turns out that the "monster" is actually Moose. His house blew away from the storm. The bear family laugh as they poke fun of Bear and call him a scaredy-bear and say, "don't you know, there's no such thing as monsters?!"

Personal Reaction:
The book gives great details about the storm outside. The illustrations are bold and detailed and cover the pages.

Classroom extension ideas:
1. This book could be used for children who might be afraid of the dark or storms.
2. This book could also be used for children who think they have monsters that live under their bed. ( )

funny, good repetition, maybe a little long for little ones, good read-aloud. Bear is joined by all his little bears because they are scared of monsters-in the end he is scared of the monster. ( )

The book is about a bear family who experiences a night of storms. First, all the little bears are fearful and come to crawl into bed with the parent bears. Then, Daddy bear starts to get paranoid and fearful himself after the irony of all his family sleeping soundly beside him!

I think this book is very cute with wonderful illustrations. I just remember going through this same thing myself and asking to crawl into bed with my parents when the spring and summer storms rolled through! I like the irony of Daddy Bear being scared himself at the end of the night. It just goes to show, we can all be scared sometimes!

In the classroom, we would talk about what makes us scared and draw pictures of it. Then we could discuss how we can feel safe in spite of those fears. OR, we could talk about storms and make our own thunderstorm by first lightly snapping, then clapping, then slapping our legs, then stomping our feet until we all were making a great, loud thunderstorm of our own!

This story is about a family of bears, in a forest. Were the little bears are afraid of the storm and they see monsters on the walls, from the storm. Well, the two little bears hop into bed with Mama Bear and PaPa Bear, and the storm just gets worse. As does the monster shapes from the storm. At the end the PaPa Bear gets so freighted from the monsters shapes, from the storm. However at the end, the monster shapes were the local moose, needing a place to stay. The Papa Bear lets the Moose in for the night.
I believe the story was fun and had a lot of pictures and was very graphic. I enjoyed reading the story and, enjoyed comparing the story to other stories including Papa Bear, Mama Bear, and Little Bears.
I would use the book in my class to over come fears. Maybe include that everyone is scared and everyone can over come fears. I also would create a three bears graph and have all the students write what fears they have recently overcame.
