Magesa begins this significant exploration of inculturation with the Old and New Testaments, examining the encounters between different cultures--an outgrowth of the desire to spread the good news of God's presence in the world--that led to various forms of inculturation. He then probes cultural encounters during early Christianity and the patristic period up through the mission church of the modern age.In the second section of this study, Magesa examines practices of inculturation today in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in the Catholic Church, Protestant churches, and the African Initiated Churches. How is Christianity practiced by Africans today? What practices strengthen the faith of Africans and what practices tend to alienate or mystify them?
