Remember when it didn't hurt I previously had posted a glowing review of this book here. 9 months and a fair bit of research/trial-and-error later, my feelings have changed quite a bit. The "what do native groups do" approach to posture seems appealing, but at least in my case, it didn't help any. In fact, after months of trying to ensure that my pelvic tilt was correct while sitting, in line with what I read in the book, I stopped trying and went back to my old natural posture. Lo and behold, my back felt better in that position! For me, my problems weren't caused by, or corrected by, posture (or walking technique, etc.). I've had far greater success by using trigger point therapy. From what I've read, probably 80% (or even more) of the cases of low back pain are caused by trigger points, which this book won't really help with at all. For anyone with a low back pain problem, I'd suggest doing research on trigger points and myofascial pain. I've read numerous books over the years related to back pain, and tried the programs they recommend. I have had more success with the approach outlined in this book than with any other I've tried. The focus is on lengthening the spine and using proper posture to keep from putting it into harmful positions. Of course, there's no telling how it will help anyone else, but it's been quite useful for me. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
With a fresh approach to a common problem, this self-help guide to overcoming back pain advocates adopting the natural, healthy posture of athletes, young children, and people from traditional societies the world over. Arguing that most of what our culture has taught us about posture is misguided--even unhealthy--and exploring the current epidemic of back pain, many of the commonly cited reasons for the degeneration of spinal discs and the stress on muscles that leads to back pain are examined and debunked. The historical and anthropological roots of poor posture in Western cultures are studied as is the absence of back pain complaints in the cultures of Africa, Asia, South America, and rural Europe. Eight detailed chapters provide illustrated step-by-step instructions for making simple, powerful changes to seated, standing, and sleeping positions. No special equipment or exercise is required, and effects are often immediate. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
