I used this book for determined importance, about how we word and perceive things. Amelia Bedelia has a very different way of understand and doing things she shows this when running for mayor by racing or casting her vote with a fishing pole. The children can determine the importance of words and actions when it comes to elections, you can present this book to the 2nd and 3rd grade students during school elections.

Amelia Bedelia books have always been my favorite! As a child I remember relating to how she took things to literal and the trouble she caused when trying to do something right. Plus, she never gave up or was disappointed in the end result. She taught me to pay close attention to detail and make sure I was staying on task. This was a new book for me and I delighted in her explanation of using a fishing pole as a “voting pole to cast votes” and she physically “ran for major, by racing the mayor.” Very cute!
