For Us and for Our Salvation is a great text for students of early church history (there is a large glossary of persons and terms), and for believers confused by contemporary revisionist accounts of the doctrine of Christ in the early church. Nichols stresses the necessity of the orthodox doctrine of the Incarnation for maintaining the orthodox doctrine of substitutionary atonement. He does not relate these to the doctrine of the covenant, but he easily could have, as he stresses the work of the final Adam. Nichols's book provides clarity for preachers that will help the church both joyfully follow the example of our human Lord and most deeply adore Christ, God over all.
