I called the picture, a paper-cut, 'Star Man' and even after I knew it was Icarus, to me it was Star Man swimming strongly through the universe with a fiercly beating heart. It inspired me and from that followed my love of Matisse. I wouldn't recommend this book any more than any of his other's - anything that features Matisse's paintings or wonderful paper-cuts work will be 5-star plus. ( ) in 1983 when i had no business spending money on this book instead of food (which was my choice) i purchased the oversized newly published hardback version of this masterpiece. it holds a place of honor on my bookshelves .. heavy stock paper, gorgeous cut outs we all have seen replicated scores of times on cards and posters .. and sometimes on museum walls. a beauty of an artbook. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

A new high quality, compactversion of the original Teriade edition. Late in his life, confined to a chair or bed, Matisse transformed a simple technique into a medium for the creation of a major art. "I have attained a form filtered to its essentials." Cutting dynamic shapes from painted paper, Matisse created his images. While producing pieces for Jazz, the artist used a large brush to write notes to himself on construction paper. The simple visual appearance of the words pleased Matisse, and he suggested using his reflective handwritten thoughts in juxtaposition with the images. The original edition of Jazz was an artist's book, printed in a limited quantity. This selection from the original is an exquisite suite of color plates and text that, like the music it was named for, was invented in a spirit of improvisation and spontaneity. These magnificent cut-outs of pure color celebrate the radiance and emotional intensity of the artist's oeuvre. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
