It's your standard paranormal/slightly urban fantasy novel. There wasn't anything particularly memorable about this addition to the genre but it was enjoyable and had me laughing. It's not bad - it's just you've read one, you start to feel like you've read them all. The main character is your typical hopeless female with snark. The romance was sweet enough although instalove, so depends on what you're looking for in a story. But it's a great beach type read. 3 stars. ( )

Again I found an author who could please me with their book every time I open the book. Amazing start for an amazing series I bet. I've always found dark, mysterious guys kind of hot and interesting and Thierry was exactly that. This book was funny with a serious side too and I loved it and I can't wait to read the next book in the series. I'm very sad that I haven't discovered Michelle Rowen before but I'm glad I did find her now. It was totally worth it and I will keep reading the books and give praise to them. ( )

Okay, I really loved this book. I've been shying away from all the cutesy vampire stuff as it just gets on my nerves, which is why it took me so long to get to this one. Surprisingly I love it, the main heroine was a great person I dug reading about, the humor was well-laced and genuinely funny without being nauseating, the plot was a good one, and the ending a great wrap-up. Certainly worth a read for any considering it. ( )

Very funny book that made your heart ache in certain scenes and you're eyes cry with laughter and others. Basically the heroine is bitten and turned into a vampire by her dates and as she runs fleeing for her life she finds the hero on a bridge trying to kill himself. He saves her life, much to his displeasure and offers her a job. It was fun not to know exactly what was on his mind and it's heartwarming to find out just how much he loves the heroine. ( )

A quick, engrossing read I am not real sure how to rate or review (I particularly like the points another reviewer, Anna (Genre Reviews), made). Synopsis at this site accurate so not going to re-describe the plot. As is the first book of a series, sometimes that's a hard one to review because parts might just be for series setup versus a standalone story.

I downloaded the sample first and stopped after just a few pages to buy the full version. Hooked immediately, mostly the imagery and action and relating to here's-nearly-literally-the-blinddate-from-hell.

PROS:
Like I said, immediately drawn into the book. Character, story and action.

Not completely same-old-same-old paranormal stuff (the vampire aspects author picked and chose).

Initially, romantic interest, Thierry, poised to be pretty cool. Both a brooding/melancholic type of character and one that when push came to shove could not resist lending a helping hand.

After reading was sure I wanted to pickup rest of series.

CONS:
Hopefully just because the start of a series, but, the story arc/plot/action did not really pan out to be as good as sample. I seriously disliked number of times heroine was dumbly walking into bad situations. In fact, you could have replaced with a typical ditzy chicklit heroine in urban club scene and made the vampire hunters violent sociopathic gang members and story would not have missed a beat.

Author seemed to choose some of the wimpier vampire powers, presumably to make them less evil and more sympathetic. For example, do not burn up in the sunlight and do not have a reflection were left in.

Vampires and heroine really dumb (for starters kept going back to clubs so hunters could pick them off). Not only did romantic interest start playing a seldom seen and cardboard role (possibly trying to be Jean Luc from the Anita Blake series but lacked the oomph) but, my least favorite plot device, a love triangle tried to startup with the other leg a hunter that more than once tried to murder them.

Except for heroine in dicey situations and running for her life (the wrong tension), the other tension/cozy-mystery moments in book were rather artificial -- as in BFF supportive even after heroine outs her vampire status, then *poof* furious because heroine not on board with meet-one-night-engaged-next BFF lovestory, with sudden changes in other characters as convenient to plot

IN SUMMARY: I did enjoy the book while reading but trouble with how it panned out. Was going to buy next in series, but having read the synopsis of rest of books in series, not sure I will be.

Update: 9/30/2012 next book is available for public library ebook download so will be giving it a chance. ( )
