Summary:
Rapunzel’s mother covets the witch neighbor’s vegetable garden especially the Rapunzel plants. Her husband was caught in the witch’s garden and said they would have to give up their expecting baby. They do as they are told and they baby is named Rapenzul. The witch locks Rapenzul in a very tall tower with no stairs or doors, but with one little window for the witch to come to and from; she would climb Rapunzel’s hair. Then one day a prince was galloping on his horse in the woods and found this tower and heard the witch say “Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair” and so he watched the witch climb up the beautiful golden hair and he did the same. Rapunzel and the prince soon fell in love; the witch found out and had to put a stop to this, so she hid Rapunzel in the middle of nowhere and had cut off her long golden hair. She tricked the prince into climbing her long hair and once he found out it wasn’t safe he jumped from the tall window and fell into a bush of thorns causing him to be blind. The prince was wandering in the forest one day and heard Rapunzel’s voice and they had reunited. When she found out he was blind she cried and her tears broke the blindness. Then they went back to the Kings palace and got married.

Personal Reaction:
This has been one of my favorite stories since I was a little girl. I have loved it so much because this story is a typical princess story, the girl gets lost the prince finds her and they get married and live happily ever after.

Classroom Ideas:
1. I could use this book during the month of February when I use my Valentine’s Day section I could focus on Love and what it means to Love our parents and friends.
2. I could also use this book to have a fun day where the classroom dress up like a character out of the book and focus on fairytales and have a few other books that the class could dress up from.
