WALL STREET JOURNAL bestseller
#1 New York Times bestselling author Joe Posnanski is back with a masterful ode to the game: a countdown of 50 of the most memorable moments in baseballâ??s history, to make you fall in love with the sport all over again.

Posnanski writes of major moments that created legends, and of forgotten moments almost lost to time. It's Willie Maysâ??s catch, Babe Ruthâ??s called shot, and Kirk Gibsonâ??s limping home run; the slickest steals; the biggest bombs; and the most triumphant no-hitters. But these are also moments raw with the humanity of the game, the unheralded heroes, the mesmerizing mistakes drenched in pine tar, and every story, from the immortal to the obscure, is told from a unique perspective. Whether of a real fan who witnessed it, or the pitcher who gave up the home run, the umpire, the coach, the opposing playerâ??these are fresh takes on moments so powerful they almost feel like myth.

Posnanskiâ??s previous book, The Baseball 100, portrayed the heroes and pioneers of the sport, and now, with his trademark wit, encyclopedic knowledge, and acute observations, he gets at the real heart of the game. From nineteenth-century pitchersâ?? duels to breaking the sportâ??s color line in the â??40s, all the way to the greatest trick play of the last decade and the slide home that became a meme, Posnanskiâ??s illuminating take allows us to rediscover the sport we loveâ??and thought we knew.

Very enjoyable - great stories, many or even most of which I hadn't seen or read previously. Terrific stuff for any baseball fan. ( )

I by no means know all, or even most, of the players and games he profiles, but enjoyed reading about them anyway. Short passages make dipping in to read easy to do, no long commitments needed, and every emotion that could possibly be shown was. Pride, humility, perseverance, humor (some were truly laugh out loud), and love of the game and players, fans, managers and commentators. I am now going to be paying much more attention-- love that I finished it at the start of the season. ( )

Thoroughly satisfying. Very light on the Tigers. ( )

100 amusing, exciting, interesting stories about the people, the plays, the history, and the game itself. I am not a lifelong baseball fan, so there were a number of terms that were unfamiliar to me, but for the most part, that didn't spoil the pleasure of reading this collection of anecdotes. ( )

Just a delightful romp down memory lane for this baseball fan, with a lot of side trips to games and players I didn't know before. Very readable, very fun. ( )
