I picked up this book because of the first sentence "You don't know me but you probably hate me." I approached this book like I did many other memoir type books whether it's about weight loss or pregnancy. I expected to be entertained and that was it... What I didn't expect was to see parts of me in this book *the whiner specifically*... I expected to be entertained and instead I was inspired-I have begun steps to become a "Former Fat Girl." The book read as if the author was talking to me (which is my favorite kind!). This is my kind of diet book - no complicated menus, no detailed exercise plans - just commonsense principles to making lifestyle changes that lead to a healthier and thinner body. Ms. Delaney recognizes that different styles work for different people, but the most important thing is to change how you feel about yourself and what you can accomplish. Very readable style and left me with a lot of hope that I could make the kind of changes I want to with regard to my health. Lisa Delaney is the author of this book and she had struggled with her weight until she was in her late 20so she knows exactly how many women feel when theyre overweight. She knows about the insecurities and other issues that you have to deal with. She writes like shes talking specifically to you and I love that. She guides you through different issues and ways to overcome them while losing weight and maintaining it. Her experiences are ones that I felt I could relate to, having gone through the same thing in my life, and her advice is logical and presented in a way that would get anyone motivated. Even people who feel like they have tried every diet and failed will be inspired by this book. Im the kind of person who hardly finishes books in less than a week, but this I finished in 3 days. I thought it was that good. Any woman struggling with their weight should read this book. Never once while reading this book will you feel ashamed of your size. Delaney has been where you are, and she understands the emotion and tribulations one faces when trying to carve out a healthier life style. I am an avid library user, but if you are ready to make some permanent changes, I would recommend buying this book. You will want to reread chapters for advice and motivation. Not convinced? Lisa gives you tips for how you can not only change your dress-size, but also how to get a new outlook and mindset/attitude, too!
This book was just what I needed, and I loved the “memoir” style! Very good.
