Introduction
Resonance is the 7th installment in the Trinity series but is the 22nd installment in the Psy Changeling world. There is something about this series that is so much more than you could ever expect and honestly I think its some of Singh's best writing. And there were some delightful suprises in this book that I honestly didn't expect to see from this author. There are two romance plot lines, although Yakov's storyline is much more stronger than Pavel. Considering this is the first time I have seen this author introduce a gay couple on page, I am not shocked by it. I am curious to see if we will start to see these type of themes in future books from her, she definitely has me intrigued. The romance that builds between these couples are unique and different from each other but so poignant. Its packed with plenty of laughs, the endearing qualities of pack dynamics among the bear clans and family close ties to tug at your heartstrings. Definitely an installment to gush over.

Summary
Stone Water Bear twins, Pavel and Yakov Stepyrev, have always been attached at the hip but now when they meet their potential mates, both Pavel and Yakov find themselves going into different directions. Pavel funs into Arwen Mercan, who is a Psy Empath and they begin starting a relationship and developing their mated bond. ARwen is shy and reserved and has never been used to the type of attention that he receives from Pavel but he can't resist what he feels and the love that just bursts from Pavel. Then we have Yakov who is the primary storyline of "Resonance Surge" Theodora is also a twin with Pax, but growing up they were seperated because she was viewed by her family as weak and much less than. She was forced to go through certain measures and now she is determined to atone for those mistakes she made but as she and Yakov discover the secrets of the past they also discover a tight endearing bond that only strengthens the more that they are together. But there is a foul plan happening and neither of them or those they consider family will see what is ahead, will they be able to rise above it and be able to embrace a brighter future ....together?

My Outlook
So Resonance Surge is a story that utterly captured my heart and so quickly too. We are first brought into the heroine's world and man my heart just poured for this young woman who has been alone for so long and is just now reconnecting with her twin. As we see what she suffered, your heart will bleed for her especially in how badly her family turned on her. And then bring in the BEARS!!! Now I have to say I have read many bear shifter romances, but Nalini Singh so easily captures their lifestyle in such authentic ways. I love their bright energy and eagerness for life and all the pranks that they play just cracks me up. But they have so much love for each other and I am in love with seeing how this author brought her readers back to the bear changeling packs and seeing so much more depth to the clan and the Russian culture. The romance was slow building but also introduces the reader to captivating emotion and relationship growth that I found to be so relatable. The way that our couple ends up being so vulnerable with each other and connect in these small and big ways was monumental for the story. I enjoyed the little touches that Nalini Singh delivers with her books and we definitely see such the intimacy being so well developed and my heart just went out so quickly to these two. If you are a fan of the way that Singh writes these pairing, I guarantee that you won't be disappointed with how this story is developed while alos building a plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat and in suspense from beginning to end.

Overall View
Overall I found Resonance Surge to be a poignant romance that feeds the heart with such slow building tension, a plot that has a breath of mystery and inspires the reader to delve deeper, and delivers a group of stories to fee the romantic heart and packs a punch straight to the heart!

Theo Marshall is used to being kept in the background. Being a low gradient Tk Psy, most people don't even know she exists. If it wasn't for her twin brother - and heir to the Marshall family - her grandfather would have seen that she disappeared completely. But her grandfather is dead, and Theo's brother Pax is busy wading through the various family secrets.

One such secret involves a reconditioning facility and somehow Theo's name is attached to it. So she heads to the facility's location in Moscow, and because of said location being in bear changeling territory, she gains the help of second-in-command Yakov Stepyrev.

The moment Yakov meets Theo he recognizes her from dreams he's been having for as long as he can remember. With Psy in his family tree it's no wonder that him and his twin Pavel have some kind of cognizance. But when one of his dreams shows Theo dying, he knows that it's somehow tied to the past of this facility.

I liked this installment in the series more than I was prepared to. I've always felt like the original Psy-Changeling series built up each succeeding set of characters so well that I was always excited to learn about which pair would get the next story. For me, I have not always felt this way about the Trinity series. I've enjoyed the books, but often find myself not knowing or remembering who some of the characters are or where we may have seen them previously. It's made it a little more difficult to get into the series. I understand some of this comes from this series being absolutely massive.

I'm always interested in learning about the history of this world created by Nalini Singh. I just feel like it's so rich with so many, for better or worse, unexplored areas. We get a lot of that with this one, digging even deeper into the true toxicity that Silence festered in the name of control. But it's varied with seeing the progress being made, new relationships being formed, people breaking out of Silence.

Nalini Singh gave readers a huge reveal at the end of Storm Echo, but Resonance Surge pulls back on dealing directly with many of the overarching storylines and instead is more insular to the characters. I'm a little surprised at this, but I feel like it's all part of the bigger build up for the series as a whole to get all the pieces in place.

I really liked Theo. You sympathize with what she's had to endure in her life, not quite measuring up to the Marshall standards and being wronged in so many ways. She's resilient though. Yes, her past effects her deeply, but she keeps moving forward. She wants to correct the wrongs done to others no matter how it might reflect on the family. And though he's secondary to Theo, I felt like the sibling/twin connection with Pax was deftly felt. I don't think Pax's side of the story is over, so I'm betting on Theo being a prominent component when Pax gets his book.

Honestly, I typically don't prefer the love at first sight trope. While I wouldn't necessarily specifically call it that, because of Yakov's dreams, he's already set on Theo being an important part in his life before he's met her. Meaning, pretty much upon physically meeting her, their course it set in his mind. In Resonance Surge somehow Nalini Singh gets this to work for me. Partly, I think there's a mystery surrounding it. They're dreams, they're malleable. It's figuring out how we get from the current point to the point in Yakov's dreams that drives the story for me. But there's so many moving parts that I don't know if it got the full attention deserved. Theo and Yakov are the main couple, but we also have Pavel and Arwen who I would say have just as satisfying a relationship arc here that Theo and Yakov do. We also get Pax's perspective a few times and coupled with the chapter headers which have always been another story unto themselves, and there's a lot going on. Yes it all works together to form the conclusion, but there were times I felt like the balance was off.

Overall, though, you can't go wrong with Nalini Singh and the Psy-Changeling series in particular is a great example of a long-running series done right. Of course, it ends on quite the potential twist that I cannot wait to see how the repercussions resonate throughout the rest of the series. ( )

This seventh book in the Psy-Changeling Trinity series stars Yakov Stepyrev and Theodora Marshall. He a changeling bear; she's a Psy. He had a wonderfully secure and loving childhood; she was repeatedly tortured by her grandfather.

Yakov has had recurring dreams about a woman in danger for years. When he meets Theo he immediately recognizes her as the girl and also recognizes that she is his mate. Theo is in Russian to look at a Center started by her grandfather to do medical experiments. When she gets there, she gets flashbacks that let her know she was once an experimental subject there.

Theo is severely damaged by the treatments her grandfather demanded in order to make her into his tool. She has a low-level telekinetic power that he has maximized to make her an assassin. She thinks that she chose to do those things and is almost crippled with guilt. She was also left with a rage that overcomes her and makes her a danger to herself and others.

With a serial killer hunting slender, blue-eyed, blonde-haired victims, Yakov is determined to keep Theo safe and help her on her mission while convincing her that they have a future together. This made for an emotionally intense story.

While the larger problem of the disintegrating psy-net was upfront for the hero and heroine, it was in the background and seemingly no closer to resolution in this episode.

I enjoyed this one and loved the relationship between Yakov and Theo. I have a major crush on the Russian bears. ( )

Review soon to come closer to publisher date.

I absolutely LOVED this book and the author introduces some LGBTQ aspects which is new and something I haven't seen her do but really enjoyed the way it happened. The BEAR CLAN was entertaining and I can't wait to see you all love it as I have. ( )
