"Newly-out trans artist's assistant Sammie is invited to an old friend's bachelor weekend in El Campo, a hedonistic wonderland of a city floating in the Atlantic Ocean's international waters-think Las Vegas with even fewer rules. Don't let my lack of intelligent things to say about this discourage you from reading it; I liked it quite a lot. More emotions than I've seen from Lubchansky's work before. They fit it into their Futurama-inspired storytelling style well, though there's nothing particularly subtle happening here. ( )
The book starts by examining some interesting quandaries about how much transphobia one should endure from the people who knew you when, but then devolves into a ridiculous supernatural conspiracy and bloodbath that offers a very unsubtle solution. I just couldn't find any enthusiasm at all in myself for the fantasy/sci-fi elements. ( )
