Interesting. It's not exactly a romance - though I'm not sure why I think so, it certainly has all the ingredients. But the story is more an - adventure? mystery? There's not much mystery to it - they know who's causing the problems, just can't locate him. And there's a surprise in the last chapter - it was foreshadowed, rather neatly. Nialla's various fears, the puzzle of Rafe's feelings and motivations - OK, maybe it is a romance. The back cover matter certainly doesn't express that, though. It was nice reading about someone who actually knows how to handle a blackmailer! (I've read two romances in recent weeks in which people crumpled under a blackmailer's demands.) Not a wonderful story, but quite good. Same category as Mary Stewart - deeper than standard romance but in that genre. And the horse aspects are a lot of fun. ( )

Well done romantic mystery by the Dragonlady, Anne McCaffrey. Nialla has been on the run ever since her horse-trainer father was murdered. When she meets Rafe Cleary, she finds someone to love and protect her. But, can he protect her when her past catches up to her. Loved it! ( )

McCaffrey's third gothic and my personal favorite. The heroine travels the horse show circuit on less than a shoestring, with her horses, her cat, and her very few personal possessions. Then a barn fire changes everything...
