Nira works for a publishing house, yet it is not her passion anymore. After five years if sloughing through business books, watching her friends move in, and feeling stuck, she knows a change has to come. She doesn’t quite expect it to be Andrew, a rising star in the author world, but her world is about to change in so many ways. Nora doesn’t quite get this thing called life. She rates herself on the happiness scale as a three out of ten. Andrew, a ten! Following Nora’s journey if self discovery, passion for books, and honesty about not having much of anything under control will help readers to identify. The book gently mentions some differences Nina feels coming from a mixed race family, though not developed beyond the surface. I found the character enjoyable and real. Worth curling up and getting taken away in the world if books, romance, friendship and owning your screw ups. ( )

Yup, still enjoying the witchy world Aguirre has created. Gavin is wonderful, a great foil for Clem, and his story really gives us a chance to delve deep into the nature of prejudice and responsibility. This elevates the story beyond a typical romance. And it has all the elements of a great romance - natural conflict, strong relationships beyond the core romance, a fun group of supporting characters, funny and/or poignant scenes. Really looking forward to the next one. ( )

I cannot wait to read book 3, I have already pre-ordered it!

Ava Lucas did a good job of narrating this novel. I enjoyed listening to the different characters speaking. Everything was still understandable at 2.0.

I was pretty sure I got a few curious looks from my husband while I was listening to this making dinner, it seems that every time he was around there were sex scenes. I love the idea of witches using their powers to fix tech gadgets for a profit.

Now to read book 1 before book 3 shows up. ( )

Boss Witch by Ann Aguirre
Fix-it Witches series book 2. Paranormal romance. Can be read as a stand-alone but some references to the first book would make it better having read the first. The two stories run along the same time line. Dual POV.
Gavin is a witch-Hunter doing his job under duress. He’s never liked spying and he likes it even less now that he’s come to know the community and one interesting female in particular.
Their lives aren’t as easy as walking away though so it’s going to get messy.

Entertaining with more witchy-ness in this book than the first. Both Clem and Gavin have family issues over and above that just by point of his job, they should be on opposite sides. But their chemistry overrides the danger and has them each questioning the future.
Slow initial burn to plenty of steamy interludes.
Clear indications at the end on whose book is next. I can’t wait!

I received a copy of this from NetGalley. ( )

Clementine "Clem" Waterhouse has always been the person to take care of others and fend for herself. She did it for years as her parents went through a nasty relationship and breakup and she's currently doing it now in helping her cousin deal with her growing feelings for a mundane - much to their grandmother's chagrin.

When a witch hunter shows up in town threatening her coven, Clem volunteers to be the one to distract him away from her friends and family. But when Clem meets the hunter Gavin Rhys, she realizes that he may post more than a threat to the coven, the biggest threat may be to her heart.

Gavin has been living under his father's orders for as long as he can remember. When you are the son of the leader of the Witch Hunters, there are certain expectations that follow you. But honestly, Gavin's heart has never been in it and since meeting Clem he starts to see more than the thankless job he currently inhabits. But when her secret is revealed, it calls into question everything he's ever been taught about hunters and witches.

Overall, I liked Clem's story much more than Dannica's. I just felt like the stakes were higher and it just made for a more compelling read. I think the major draw for me was just getting a bigger and better glimpse into the world Ann Aguirre created. Getting a bit more of the history of the witches and, in this case, witch hunters was interesting. There were a few small tidbits that were maybe mentioned in passing that I'd be interested to see if they're expanded upon in the next book like the witch hunters that were introduced in the first book, but expanded upon in the second.

Honestly, I liked Clem and Gavin just fine, but I wasn't here for their romance story like I was for how things would play out between the opposing factions of witches and hunters. I also liked seeing both Gavin and Clem assert themselves within their families. How they both have dealt with varying issues with their parents (or grandparents) and how those things have had long-term effects on them. I liked seeing Gavin and Clem begin to cope and realize that they don't have to carry those issues over into their own lives.

Overall, though, I've really enjoyed this series and look forward to continuing to read about these characters and watching this world grow. ( )
