During his 25 years with the Thousand Islands Bridge authority, Dale Francis Fikes was responsible for the Wellesley Island Properties, as well as the restoration of Boldt Castle. The Castle had received only minimal maintenance since 1904. Cleaning it up, making it safe for the public, and restoring it according to George Boldt's dream plans tested and expanded Dale's many talents. His responsibilities included building a complete sewage disposal plant, new water treatment facilities, total replacement of the electrical utility system as well as organizing the business of castle operation. Later maintenance of the Thousand Islands Bridge was his responsibility. Dale, his wife Carol, and their extended family live in Philadelphia, NY, about a half-hour from-Boldt Castle.
