James Surls' Sculpture Gardens: A Memorial to Joe Surls is open to the public for the first time in April 2012 on a tour, featuring 35+ early James Surls' works and ten outstanding Texas sculptures selected by in the first James Surls Texas Sculptors Competition -- all of which are shown, with articles about the works and artists. Also, the only public opening of the James and Barbara Stewart's award-winning gardens (2007, "Best Residential Landscape in Texas") features sculptures by Glenna Goodacre, W. Stanley Proctor, Gary Price, David Pearson, Jo Saylors, and Walter Horton. In addition, the book focuses on over 75+ professional artists' studios and galleries and their works, which was also part of the Tour of the Sculpture Gardens and Professional Artists in the Upper East Side of Texas, which includes Malakoff, Athens, Canton, Ben Wheeler, Edom, and Kemp, Texas
