Then the ending really ramps up the crazy. My only disappointment was the final beach scene. Stretched a little bit. But I still think it was well-told overall. ( ) Solid 3.5...no rounding. I wanted to like this book a lot. I wanted it to shock me or intrigue me and leaving thinking about it later. But it didn't. I'm not a fan of deserted island stories, so this book was a little out of my usual pickings. However, in the over scheme of things it was a good story. Based on the premise of this book, I was under the impression that we were going to find more Robinson Crusoe type of action in this book. You know maybe some cannibalism to go in line with the island's history. Maybe even encountering someone who has been able to live in this horrible island–pardon, atoll. The overall story has a lot of potential for being even more dramatic and shocking, but as other reviewers have indicated, this novel does fall short of what was promised. The characters were also very had to sympathize with let alone give two shits about. There was something very irritating about all of them; from their personalities to the dialogue. One thing that I did appreciate the author doing was tying all of the characters together. It was a pretty awesome [predictable] plot twist. Besides all of the f-bombs thrown around the book. This is a pretty easy and fast read. The kind where you don't really need to invest much of brain to get what's going on and what's happening. So if you're looking for something short to read on a plane ride, train ride, or road trip...this is one will do. This was a blind read from my local library. It was supposed to be a gothic but not even close. The book was covered so I did not know not know the name of the author or book. Started with military on an island in the war and there were fewer men and I am guessing why. Then the main character is a maid in a hotel in Hawaii about talks about sex toys in the guest's rooms. No need for such language with all the f words and s words. I did not finish. I guess they go this island with some other people. Not for me. I won a copy of the book and the opionins are my own. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

When Lux McAllister and her boyfriend, Nico, are hired to sail two women to a remote island in the South Pacific, it seems like the opportunity of a lifetime. Stuck in a dead-end job in Hawaii, and longing to travel the world after a family tragedy, Lux is eager to climb on board The Susannah and set out on an adventure. She's also quick to bond with their passengers, college best friends Brittany and Amma. The two women say they want to travel off the beaten path. But like Lux, they may have other reasons to be seeking an escape. Shimmering on the horizon after days at sea, Meroe Island is every bit the paradise the foursome expects, despite a mysterious history of shipwrecks, cannibalism, and even rumors of murder. But what they don't expect is to discover another boat already anchored off Meroe's sandy beaches. The owners of the Azure Sky, Jake and Eliza, are a true golden couple: gorgeous, laidback, and if their sleek catamaran and well-stocked bar are any indication, rich. Now a party of six, the new friends settle in to experience life on an exotic island, and the serenity of being completely off the grid. Lux hasn't felt like she truly belonged anywhere in years, yet here on Meroe, with these fellow free spirits, she finally has a sense of peace. But with the arrival of a skeevy stranger sailing alone in pursuit of a darker kind of good time, the balance of the group is disrupted. Soon, cracks begin to emerge: it seems that Brittany and Amma haven't been completely honest with Lux about their pasts--and perhaps not even with each other. And though Jake and Eliza seem like the perfect pair, the rocky history of their relationship begins to resurface, and their reasons for sailing to Meroe might not be as innocent as they first appeared. When it becomes clear that the group is even more cut off from civilization than they initially thought, it starts to feel like the island itself is closing in on them. And when one person goes missing, and another turns up dead, Lux begins to wonder if any of them are going to make it off the island alive"-- No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
