Gr 4-6, The invention of frequency hopping told in graphic novel format tells the story of Hedy Lamarr and her role in the pivotal invention. It starts during Word War II when Hedy Lamarr was married to a weapons salesmen who is working with Nazis. Lamarr detesting the Nazis herself looked for way to work against them. Well after World War II ended, Lamarr continued to work on a secret communication system with George Antheil, so enemy submarines could not hear torpedoes being fired. The storyline has major gaps, along with an abrupt ending, however the illustrations are inspired by the comics of the golden age which convey the time and place. This would be work as a great biography for beginning readers, or lower level readers for it’s high interest topic. It is also a way to introduce the idea of “frequency hopping” to younger minds.
