This is the kind of story that made me pre-order the sequel, because it's satisfying in itself, but I need more. It's all told from Parker's point of view, a limitation I enjoy. The affection between him and his cop is snarky, and the plot never stops. The magic system holds together well most of the time, or all the time if I failed to pick up all of what the author was laying down. I enjoyed every character, and there are many, and all the settings. The conflicts felt threatening, the life complications a bit overwhelming. This was Very Good.

There are spots of editing errors, though the worst is the stream-of-consciousness bits at the beginning of Chapter 17. Many readers won't notice. Many will. Editing so long a book is difficult.

I'm thrilled to find another author whose work I enjoy! ( )

A fae PI and an alchemist cop fight crime in a human world that knows of but regularly discriminates against alchemists, witches, werewolves, etc. and especially fears fae. Fun m/m paranormal. ( )

I picked up the prequel short story to this one during the Winter Wonderland Giveaway. It was interesting enough that I ordered this story when I was done. In this urban fantasy/romance a private detective (who is also fae) and a police officer (who is also an alchemist) search for a supernatural killer who is draining the magic from magical creatures (vampires, werewolves, etc.) This was an interesting story. I liked the world building and learning about this magic inclusive society. The main characters were enjoyable to read about although they seemed a bit trope for the genre personality-wise. Overall, pretty well done single-story which left it open for continuing on without resorting to being cliffhangerish.

I'm am certainly open to reading more in this series and plan to pick up the next one which I believe the author plans to release later this year. ( )
