"Twenty-eight-year-old Georgia Stanton has to start over after she gave up almost everything in a brutal divorce - the New York house, the friends, and her pride. Now back home at her late great-grandmother's estate in Colorado, she finds herself face-to-face with Noah Harrison, the bestselling author of a million books where the cover is always people nearly kissing. He's just as arrogant in person as in interviews, and she'll be damned if the good-looking writer of love stories thinks he's the one to finish her grandmother's final novel... even if the publisher swears he's the perfect fit. Noah is at the pinnacle of his career. With book and movie deals galore, there isn't much the "golden boy" of modern fiction hasn't accomplished. But he can't walk away from what might be the best book of the century - the one his idol, Scarlett Stanton, left unfinished. Coming up with a fitting ending for the legendary author is one thing, but dealing with her beautiful, stubborn, cynical great-granddaughter, Georgia, is quite another. But as they read Scarlett's words in both the manuscript and her box of letters, they start to realize why Scarlett never finished the book - it's based on her real-life romance with a World War II pilot, and the ending isn't a happy one. Georgia knows all too well that love never works out, and while the chemistry and connection between her and Noah is undeniable, she's as determined as ever to learn from her great-grandmother's mistakes - even if it means destroying Noah's career."--Amazon.… (más)

So caught up in cliches that I don't know where the storyline is. ( )

I agree with another reviewer that if I had read this instead of listening, I would have skipped a lot of pages of the mushy parts! If you're a fan of romance books, I imagine this is a 5 star book! Why did I keep listening? Well, the story lines were very good and this author can write! ( )

I'm not a fan of romance novels where everyone falls in love at first sight and is constantly referred to as "the most beautiful", "the handsomest" etc., etc. If I had been reading the booking rather than listening to the audio version, I would have skipped over a lot of the descriptive text. I enjoyed learning about Scarlett's and Constance's work as plotters in the Women's Royal Air Force. These airwomen plotters were responsible for calculating the position of, and identifying the hundreds of hostile and friendly aircraft leaving and approaching the coasts of the British Isles. Expanding on that aspect of the novel would have held more interest for me. ( )

Book Review: the things we leave unfinished
Stars: 4.5 X 5
Author: Rebecca Yarros @rebeccayarros

Georgia Stanton is 28 years old and just went through a divorce. She gave it all away to get her freedom. She comes home to Colorado to the house her grandmother Scarlet raised her. This is her fresh start. Her homecoming is bittersweet as her great grandmother has recently passed away.
Noah is a writer of many romance books who has come to Colorado to finish his idol Scarlett Stanton's unfinished novel.
Noal and Scarlett accidently meet at her grandmother's book store. Noah has no idea who Georgia is but Georgia realized he is a writer. Scarlett does not know that Noah is the writer the publishing company and Scarlett's agent have chose to finish her last novel. Georgia and Noah's first meeting at the bookstore does not go well and the meeting they have with the publisher's does not go that well either. The unfinished story is the love story of Georgia's great grandparents. The story unfolds during WWII as Jamison Stanton is pilot "stationed" in England. This is were he meets the love of his life, aristocratic Scarlett. The love story between these two is beautifully told in flashbacks. They marry, have a beautiful son named William. Unfortunately, Jamison's plane disappears and he is presumed dead. Scarlett decides to take William to Colorado where Jamison's family is. Just before she is set to leave England there is an air raid bombing and her beloved sister Constance is killed. Scarlett eventually makes it Colorado and begins life anew. She does eventually fall in love an remarry many many years later.
As Noah and Georgia begin to work on the book together they disagree on the ending. Georgia wants to end just as it did with Jamison dying. Noah wants it to have the happy ending that all romance novels should have. After many discussions they agree that Noah will write both endings and Georgia after reading them will chose which one will used.
As time goes by with Noah and Georgia working so close together they start to become close. They are living a happy life and the relationship is becoming serious. They are falling in love. Noah decides to throw a birthday bash for Georgia and he even invites her estranged mother who ruins everything. Georgia ends up banishing both of them and is set to be miserable for now on. The day of her former wedding anniversary arrives as does a package from her great grandmother that has a letter addressed to Georgia. This letter will change Georgia's life and explains so much more about her great grandmother.
Georgia is in love with Noah and she goes to. NYC to find him but he is not there. He has been gone for months researching his next book. Georgia is heartbroken but before she heads back to Colorado she meets with her grandmother's agent and has her change the end of the book the happy one Noah wrote. Once Noah returns to NYC he realizes that Georgia came for him and changed the end of the book. Noah is also in love with Georgia so he go to Colorado. Noah finds Georgia and Georgia tells Noah about her grandmother's letter. To Noah it all makes sense now and Noah tells Georgia that he was not researching a book but looking for her great grandfather. The salvage team he hired found the wreckage of her grandfather's ring. Georgie is flabbergasted that Noah did this for her and she finally tells Noah she loves him. Noah tells Georgia her loves her too. They decided to split their time between NYC and Colorado.
There is so much more to the ending of this book but I sincerely believe it needs it be read and told about in a book review.
Rebecca Yarros is an amazing writer and this book is one I just could not put down. The love story between Jamison and Scarlett is pure soulful love and a joy to read.
I wholeheartedly recommend this book but just a caution have your tissues nearby.

Desperately trying to catch up on books I've read in 2023, before it turns 2024. Don't think I'll make it. Full review (hopefully) to come later. ( )
