Rereleased as a rules and setting book for the new open source Runequest system, this 160 page, full colour book brings to life the rich city of Lankmar for players and games masters. The use of the Runequest rules system allows for a faithful recreation of the world Newhon, the setting for the heroes Fafhrd and The Gray Mouser who came to life in the novels by Fritz Lieber. Fritz Lieber created a decadent world where you have to be a rogue to survive. Heroes spend lots of time drinking, feasting, wenching, brawling, stealing, and gambling, and are seldom fussy about who they hire out their swords to. Lankhmar is the center of Nehwon, and many of the adventures in the original stories held some connection to it. This book will provide full and detailed information on the city. It is a large and decadent city, ruled by an Overlord (at least in theory). Actual rule has been contested by invaders, the Thieves Guild, Wizards, strange cults, and even ultra-intelligent rats. Lankhmar also hosts many religions, which can be divided into the Gods in Lankhmar and the Gods of Lankhmar. The Gods in Lankhmar come from other lands, and hold various dominion as gods for worship. Many of them started out as men, and prevalent Gods in Lankhmar include Aarth and Issek. The Gods of Lankhmar, on the other hand, are the mummified ancestors of the Lankhmarese, and are not worshipped by rather feared. When a God in Lankhmar becomes prevalent, it has not been unheard of for the Gods of Lankhmar to leave their shuttered temple and visit the rival temple. Started before the publication of Lord of the Rings, critics often cited the Lankhmar books as unintentionally anti-LOTR - hip where LOTR is ponderous, sexy where it is chaste, knowingly amoral. The roleplaying game allows players and games masters to enter this world.… (más)
