I've been kidnapped by Zeus. Plucked from the streets of Manhattan and frightened half to death by a freaking Olympian god. And now I'm trapped in the Underworld, being forced to compete in a series of deadly trials for the position of Queen of the Underworld. Which would mean marrying Hades, the utterly terrifying Lord of the Dead. Who the hell wants a husband at all, let alone one made of smoke and riddled with death? I have to get back home, to New York and my brother. But I can't leave without completing the trials and they've been designed for a godly Queen, not Persephone - barista and botanical garden enthusiast. I'm surrounded by lethal, all-powerful maniacs. Sexy-as-hell maniacs, sure, but as dangerous as they come. And I'm going to have to prove to all of them that there's a goddess of hell inside me. It's the only way I'll survive the Hades Trials. But then what? And why, why, why am I so desperate to see under Hades smoky exterior and find out what he's hiding from me? If I win the trials, I have to marry the devil himself. But losing might mean losing my life. The Power of Hades is book 1 in the Hades Trials, which is intended for adults and is packed with magic, mythology and slow-burn soulmate romance! *Contains swearing and mature themes.*… (más)

if you love that enemies to lover trope, this is one for you. The so called Villain being a hero mixed in with Greek mythology, spice and romance.. adored it so much that after reading it for free on Kindle unlimited I purchased a physical copy. ( )

It is a 3.75-stars book for me. If you like Greek mythology, I think you like it.
I always wanted more. More detail, more feeling more everything. That being said, I still really enjoyed it and will definitely be reading more.
The only thing I didn’t like was that Persephone and Hades had little interaction in this book, but since this is book one in a series, I hope the next installments focus more on their relationship. You have to continue with the other two books to continue with the story.
I can't wait to read the next book and continue with this story.... and find out why Persephone was exiled in the first place! ( )

This is a refreshing twist on the myth of Persephone and Hades, which swings the Greek gods into an entirely new adventure.

Working at a cafe, the last thing this modern heroine expects is to run into a hot guy, who suddenly morphs into a huge being surrounded by lightning. Her world turns upside down as she finds herself in the Underworld and is told she's actually Persephone, who was stripped of her memories and exiled to Earth. Now, she's to take part in a series of deadly trials in hopes of winning the place of Queen at Hades side. Not only doesn't she want the prize, she wishes nothing more than to forget the entire thing and return to her life on Earth. But to do that, she must lose the trials, and that would mean her own death.

This book hooked me in more than I expected, and it turned into one of those reads, which I couldn't put down. Persephone steered clear of cliches and comes across as a modern day young woman, who struggles but is determined to achieve her very earthly dreams. Her decisions are understandable, and she deals with whatever hits her as best as she can. She isn't overly powerful, but as very normal weaknesses and fears. It was simply a treat to root for her as she came against those nasty Greek gods and all of their tricks.

There are quite a few unexpected twists in the plot. While a couple of things are fairly predictable, other aspects come as a completely surprise. There's a nice dash of humor sprinkled in with the darker and more tense moments, giving it great balance. The humor is often very suggestive, and being in the Underworld, there is torture and darkness. It's creates a nice clash to Persephone. Hades definitely stands out, not only because of his hotness, but there's a quite a few secrets surrounding him. But this is also true of Persephone and the past...and the other gods.

I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series already.

I received an ARC and was caught up in the story much more than I thought I'd be. ( )
