Good information about his upbringing in Canada and his start in broadcasting. Chapters are short but he comes across as a nice guy. He felt his job as host of Jeopardy was to make things comfortable for the contestants. The book was started after his cancer diagnosis. Appreciated his thoughts as his illness became more severe. ( ) This was an interesting ... memoir? It's a collection of quite short chapters that talk about one topic, event, or person in Alex Trebek's life. This was a perfectly fine book and I felt like I got to know more about the author. If you're looking for a juicy tell-all, this is not the book for you - it's softer, more respectful, and more private than that. A very easy, light read. Clearly it is a gift to his fans, insight into Jeopardy, a bit of reflection on his life's highlights, a nudge to philanthropy, a peek into a life with cancer, a goodbye. It is very time-stamped, with mentions of "now" and life with COVID. Intentional? Was it part of the rush to write and publish asap because his end was near? I'm not sure, but I fear it will prevent the book from being a classic or even relevant years from now. Or it very much becomes a representation of life of 1980ish-2020(and earlier, of course). If you are a Jeopardy fan or just admire Trebek, you'll like it and admire him even more for his humility and his regular-guy authenticity. (he doesn't even stretch the truth in saying his wife is gorgeous - she is!) The most feel-good autobiography out there, perhaps. Some of his stories have no point, they are just memories. And even that, Trebek is upfront about. He has nothing much to say but feels like his supporters deserve a final conversation. And that's what this book is. A Life Well Remembered In the tapestry of life, we find A soul whose light forever shines A life well lived, a story told, In memories etched, so brave and bold. A heart that loved with wondrous might, Filled with compassion, pure and bright In every smile, a warmth so deep, A gentle touch, a love to keep. Through trials faced, with steadfast grace, A spirit strong, in every space A beacon of hope, a guiding star, In times of darkness, never far. In laughter shared, in tears embraced, In joyous moments, never erased A life well remembered, forever cherished, In hearts of all, that will never perish. For though they're gone, their legacy lives, In every memory, it still thrives A life so lived, a soul so true, Forever cherished, we honor you. (10/5/2023) Alex Trebek admits up front that his life "was not particularly exciting." And he's right. I loved watching him on Jeopardy, but this book was a snooze. Actually, I enjoyed the chapters Trebek read on the audiobook, but most of the book was narrated by Ken Jennings, and I think his mildly annoying voice brought the production down a star in my rating. If Trebek had read the whole thing, I would have probably forgiven the mild and bland nature of it just from the warm fuzzies his voice gives me. Regardless of how I feel about the book, I will miss Trebek and will gladly watch any Jeopardy clips of him that pop up on my YouTube feed. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

HTML:Longtime Jeopardy! host and television icon Alex Trebek reflects on his life and career. When he debuted as the host of Jeopardy! in 1984, Alex Trebek became something like a family member to millions of television viewers, bringing entertainment and education into their homes five nights a week. In 2019, he made the stunning announcement that he had been diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer. What followed was an incredible outpouring of love and kindness. Social media was flooded with messages of support, and the Jeopardy! studio received boxes of cards and letters offering guidance, encouragement, and prayers. For more than three decades, Trebek had resisted countless appeals to write a book about his life. Yet he was moved so much by all the goodwill, he felt compelled to finally share his story. "I want people to know a little more about the person they have been cheering on for the past year," he writes. The book combines illuminating personal anecdotes with Trebek's thoughts on a range of topics, including marriage, parenthood, education, success, spirituality, and philanthropy. Trebek also addresses the questions asked most often by Jeopardy! fans, such as what prompted him to shave his signature mustache, his insights on legendary players like Ken Jennings and James Holzhauer, and his opinion of Will Ferrell's Saturday Night Live impersonation. The book uses a novel structure inspired by Jeopardy! and features dozens of never-before-seen photos that candidly capture Trebek over the years. This wise, charming, and inspiring book is further evidence of why Trebek has long been considered one of the most beloved and respected figures in entertainment.
