The New York Ontario & Western was the first truly large railroad to cease operation in the post-steam "modern" era. A true "classic age" railroad, the line handled its traffic with Camelbacks and Mountains in the steam years, and FTs and F3s in the diesel era until its demise on March 29, 1957.
