"Two Carpathians find hope in the bond that ties their souls ... Stolen from her home at a young age and tormented for centuries, Elisabeta Trigovise is scared to show herself to anyone. Even though she has been rescued and is now safe within the Carpathian compound, she has lived in fear for so long she has no idea how to survive without it. She wants to answer the siren call of her lifemate--but the very thought terrifies her. Before he found Elisabeta, Ferro Arany was an ancient warrior without emotion. Now that his senses have come alive, he knows it will take more than kind words and soft touches to convince the fractured woman that they are partners, not master and prisoner. For now, he will give her his strength until she finds hers, allowing the steady rhythm of his heart to soothe Elisabeta's fragile soul. But even as she learns to stand on her own, the vampire who kept her captive is desperate to claim her again, threatening the song Elisabeta and Ferro are writing together"--… (más)

When a series has been going on for over thirty books, it is hard to keep everything feeling fresh and new. Christine Feehan manages it skillfully with a unique couple, ratcheted tension, and plenty of action. ( )

Listened to audio narrated by Jim Frangione. He has a great sense of timing and rhythm making listening effortless.

Ferro Arany is an ancient Carpathian, his mate has been deeply damaged and will do anything and everything to help her heal and strong again.

Elisabeta Trigovise has taken centuries ago, held and tortured for centuries. While she has am amazing talents her years of abuse has made her afraid of the world and making choices.

Ferro's natural dominance is perfect. It gave Elisabeta a safe framework to navigate the Carpathian world and rebuild her confidence and belief in herself.

The Carpathians are facing an insidious threat that only Elisabeta can heal and they must figure out it's source before all fall to the vampires new way to attack them.

I liked that Ferro knew what Elisabeta needed and made sure she had it, no matter that others didn't understand or approve. Too often people pass judgment without understanding.

I was really looking forward to Elisabeta's story and I enjoyed most of her story but still struggled with the excessive amount of the repetition and predictability. It was also disappointing to see fellow Carpathians jumping to the worst conclusions rather than seeking understanding from their circle. There was a heavy sense of distrust amongst the Carpathians and it was disappointing to read.
