The painter, sculptor and printmaker Wolfgang Mattheuer (1927-2004) was one of the leading representatives of the 'Leipzig School'. He took part in all of the important art exhibitions in the GDR, and, at the latest with his contribution to documenta 6 in Kassel, attracted attention in the West too. Thus individual works of his also found their way into West German museums. The largest stock of his graphic works is however in Chemnitz: since the private collection of Hartmut Koch was acquired by the city's Kunstsammlungen, this institution now owns the almost complete graphic oeuvre of Mattheuer, who in the course of his life produced nearly 900 sheets with more than 400 motifs. Many of them gave him the ideas for his paintings. This catalogue presents the collection through large-scale illustrations and scholarly essays. In this way Mattheuer's pictorial world, always figural but yet often mysterious unfolds through etchings, lithographs, woodcuts and lino-cuts created over a period of six decades. Exhibition: Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz (27.6 - 26.9.2010). No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
