Account of the making of Major Mitchell's 1834 map, which draws on the original records of Mitchell's instructions to his men in the field and the reports and survey plans he received from them. The text is supported by many illustrations including reproductions of surveyor sketches and portions of Mitchell's engraved map. Also includes two appendices, detailed notes and references, a bibliography and an index.
