* I got this book for review from the publisher*

I simply adored this book. I flew through this read. I thought this was firstly a solid standalone but am dying for more books following these characters. I simply loved Theodora characters so much and found her to be unique heroine and loved it. I also loved how this was structure with the narrative and also the letters. I loved both the setting of this book and found it to such a refreshing read. I loved the mystery elements and how this book played with fantasy elements. I loved how even thought this book focused on two characters we did meet so many others characters that easily expanded the world. I thought the romance in this book was so awesome and loved the hate to love mix with a blast from the past romance. I loved the plot of this book and found it to both unique and different if you enjoy books like hunting prince dracula. I also found the writing and pacing to be easy to read and hard to put down. Such a solid read. ( )

I really enjoyed this one. It's action packed and fast-paced, which I love. I really loved learning about the mythology and lore in this one. We get stories of how "werewolves" came to be, and the "witch" in the woods, and of course, Dracula. I just loved all the lore that was weaved into this, I think that was my favorite part of the story.

I did like the main character, Theo, I thought she was funny; but she was reckless at times. She actually reminded me of Evie from The Diviners series. They're both funny in their own ways, but they're also both impulsive and reckless at times.

The "twist" towards the end was interesting, but you do see it coming. As far as I know, this seems to be a stand alone fantasy novel, which I really appreciate. I've been wanting to read more stand alone books lately rather than series, and fantasy books are definitely not known for being stand alone, so I appreciated that about this book. Overall, I really enjoyed it. ( )

Everything in this that could have been interesting ended up cut off at the knees. Romantic tension between the hero and heroine? Instead of allowing them to talk and build intimacy, let's interrupt them with Adventurous Suspense! Adventure churning into a suspenseful thrill ride? Instead of taking the plot somewhere unexpected and forcing the characters to show their mettle, let's keep everything convenient and predictable! Magic revealing itself to our intrepid heroine? Instead of exposing some unforeseen talent, let's make it all about genetics and dumb luck!

This read like a book Bennett didn't want to be writing...or one that needed a good deal more time and thought to come to fruition. Not a terrible book, but not one worth the read, either. ( )

* I received a free digital copy of this from Edelweiss: Above the Treeline for an honest review. (Of course, I've just now gotten around to writing the review because procrastination, but better late than never, right? Sigh.)

The Lady Rogue is an adventurous historical fiction set in the 1930s, featuring Theodora Fox and her ex-but-kinda-current love interest, Huck, where they attempt to find her father after he disappears looking for a legendary ring that belonged to Vlad the Impaler (aka Dracula).

I REALLY loved the premise of this book. The writing was compelling and imaginative, and the integration of historical Romania and the lore of Dracula was fascinating. The idea of a female lead in an adventurous historical setting was appealing - I liked the idea of a strong and fiery main character, like Pierce's Alanna of Trebond or Lee's Mary Quinn, but Theo unfortunately fell short of my expectations.

Because so much of the story centered around Theo and Huck's relationship, or lack thereof, the storyline fell a bit flat for me. I didn't appreciate the angsty teenage drama that seemed entirely out of place at times, and there was no real growth from either of them. There were fascinating moments in the story that I would have liked to see the author expand upon instead of focusing on past angst, BUT the writing really did make up for the characters' shortcomings. I was immersed in Romanian lore and suspenseful magical encounters, and I LOVED every bit of it!

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys some fluffy love and a solid historical adventure, and of course, dark magic and Dracula tales! ( )
