Emil and Brighton are brothers, twins who are living in a slightly futuristic time when there are Celestials with super powers. There are different crews and one is run by Luna. Regular mortals have suffered at the hands of Celestials so there are some folks, including the Senator running for President, who are against them.
Emil realizes he has powers after a subway attack. Brighton is incredibly jealous. The family goes into hiding and teams up with a group of Celestials trying to bring down Luna's group. ( )

Story is very good, and I loved the premise . It is unfortunate that the writing gets just a tad sloppy ear the end. During the climax of the story, details become muddy and it feels like details about movement are missed and left out. I became confused, when reading that something is dropped, then the next sentence says it’s in their hand again. Weird writing like this continues through to the cliffhanger ending. ( )

Infinity Son by Adam Silvera
The characters are Brighton and Emil, they are twin brothers, They face the blood casters. The blood casters are a terrorist group who have powers and theyre goal only being their enemy being to follow their leader. Their leader Luna, Luna has one goal to be able to live forever. At any cost. Even at the cost of her parents' life.

The setting is futuristic although they never mention where they live, it's a place full of super powered humans, the technology being so advanced to the point where people can create and sell drugs that give you powers of course to a certain degree where if you can’t handle it you go KABOOM! There are also hallucination drugs that make you believe you have powers but are of course all fake.

As the leader of the Blood Casters searches for the answer to be able to become immortal. It is eventually discovered that Emil is a Phoenix whose power was known to be extinct, Pheonixs known to be everlasting meaning they will be reincarnated after their death. Only two ever people were phoenix, one of them sought to cause destruction and to give powers to everyone creating what was known as the blood casters. The Spell Walkers, a group of superheroes, hoping to save people with powers from the ridicule they face, recruit Emil and Brighton to help fight against Luna; they believe that Emil will be either their savior or their downfall and Emil isn’t even that's what he wants.

The main message this novel was trying to portray would be the concept of trust, I believe the author wanted to portray the message of trust. Throughout the book there are many examples of people who do things they shouldn't because they don't think they can trust anyone. I know it's the central theme because there is an important part of the book that involves Emil having to regain his trust with his family after some dark secrets come out.

What I liked best about this novel was the amount of action there was and I like the whole reason for conflict and their need to live forever. Although the book was really good I wasn't a fan of the way it ended, it leaves you with a cliffhanger and you really want to know what's next instead of having an ending. I recommend this novel if you enjoy action books and drama. You might not like this novel if you don't like cliffhangers or just overall mad drama that just sometimes won't make sense. ( )

A bad YA book with a little Fantasy cover. Seeing as though I really like Adam Silvera’s other books I was really curious what he could do with the fantasy aspect. Spoiler alert, It wasn’t good.

In this book you follow two brothers. Emil and Brighton. Emil is someone who’s always very cautious and likes to not blend in as much. Even though they are twins Brighton is the exact opposite. Brighton loves the spotlight, in a world that is mixed with people who can have powers it seems like the perfect fit for him. With a turn of events it’s not Brighton but cautious Emil who get’s powers. Powers nobody can get naturally. With this starts a plot with Celestials -people born with power- and Specters -people who take power from magical animals- fighting for the bigger good in the world.

If this summary sounds weird and all over the place, I hope you don’t blame me. It’s all I could get out of the story.

This isn’t a Fantasy novel people. I mean as much as I like Adam and his writing style it’s just not for a fantasy genre. To make it a little more understandable I’ll make a list of the good’s and the bad’s.

Good:
-Main Characters: Everybody that has read an Adam Silvera book knows how good and layered his main characters are. The two brothers feel real and I really like how they are almost complete opposites of each other. I could easily see where the two guys came from. The problems they were facing was sometimes farfetched but well done. I particularly liked the whole getting famous part and how much someone can sacrifice to get it.

-Writing: This is a mixed one. I’m putting this at the good section because I do feel like Adam has a very easy writing style. I finished this book in 5 days even though I did not like it at all.

Bad:
-Side characters: To be honest I can’t name a single side character besides Atlas, and that’s only because one of my cats is named that. The brothers had one friend that was only there to be present. I do not understand why she was put in the book and I felt her presence was none existence. The other “spellwalkers” were not memorable and fun. I seriously can’t remember a single name and one of them was even a POV character. They weren’t layered and mostly one note.

-Worldbuilding: Boy, this is a big one. You can’t just start writing a fantasy novel and hope for the best, and I feel like that’s what happened. There is literally no world building. On the second page it has this quote "No one really knows how far back celestials have existed or how they first received their powers." This is basically what the whole book looks like.
Now for the other books Adam has written this type of stuff is perfectly fine. I did not care at all when it wasn’t explained at all how the serves knew people were going to die in “They Bothe Die in the End”, it didn’t matter because the book was super character driven. In my opinion you can’t have that in a fantasy book at least not if you want to be taken seriously. You have to have rules and limits.
That’s not to say every Fantasy book has to have that. Harry potter didn’t give an explanation how wizards can produce magic. But it didn’t matter because there was a well thought out plot and loads of building how things worked and looked like.
Things weren’t explained, people just have powers and control them, there are people that make a drug of the powers, some people take the power from animals and there are wands! Yes, no joke no idea how they work or why people need them but I mean why am I surprised. I just couldn’t keep in apart with as little explanation we got.

-Action: Now here is a thing that is actually really hard. Action scenes can be so tricky. Come to think of it I rarely read an action scene where everything is organic and easy to follow. This book is no exception. The action scenes in this book were brutal. I mean I can forgive a author for an action scene that’s not that easy to follow. But to have an action scene that is all over the place and you can’t even figure out what people are doing and who they are fighting is another story. It doesn’t help that while following Adam on twitter he frequently says something like: this chapter is so hard to write, or that chapter really kicked my butt. I can actually read that in the finished product.

-Ending: it was a mess. People made decisions out of the blue. The “big third act” is very sloppy and you can clearly see it was written with a sequel in mind. I don’t mind a build up for a sequel or even a very big cliffhanger. The problem is that this book is just one big lead up to something that explains things, provides more information, is more in depth.

I feel like I’m super hard but reading other reviews I know I’m not the only one. Please read his other books and let’s hope he’ll soon drift to the niche he’s superb in.

Oh. My. I mean, I love all of Adam Silvera's books, so I knew it was a safe bet I'd like this one, but wow. I loved the switching perspectives; frequently, I find single perspective fiction much more angsty and painful than I do mixed perspectives, just because of the way an unreliable narrator shares their suffering with the reader, but the drama and pain was palpable here even while we knew what all the characters were feeling. I really felt the inner conflicts of almost every character, and it was immersive to experience that.

The ending...I knew there was a gut punch coming, and I thought I knew what it was going to be, but I was wrong, and when I read the last few paragraphs, my jaw literally dropped. (Thank God for masks; I was working at the polls as an election official, and even masked, the other people working with me could tell my mind had just been blown.) I was STUNNED, and now I'll be suffering until Infinity Reaper drops in March 2021. Thanks, Adam... ( )
