"Do it Scared" by Ruth Soukup summarizes her extensive research and theories on how our fears are holding us back from accomplishing our highest goals. Using a fun and enlightening online quiz, the reader learns their greatest fear archetypes and then how to overcome and work around them. I learned that I was a procrastinator and perfectionist which means I have a hard time getting started until things are "just so." This is really accurate - I'm great at researching and planning but terrible at getting going. Focusing on taking a step, even if conditions aren't exactly right, helps me move forward. While other archetypes are also present (outcast - fear of being rejected, people pleaser - wanting to make others like me or doing what they want, not what I want), the procrastinator really fits me. The steps in the book and on Ruth's website are helping me move forward and actually take action (instead of just thinking about it)! ( ) I honestly don't know and I honestly have no idea whatsoever where the heck and how the heck to start writing this book-review. One of the things I that can say and one of the things that I can share with you is that this book is definitely not a book aimed at the male part of the world's population, but more like a book that's aimed at the female part of the world's population. Nonetheless or nevertheless, which ever grammar form is correct, even the male part of the world's population can learn and take something valuable and something worthy from it. What that is for other men, I don't really know and I don't really have the slightest clue, for we are all wired differently, but for me, what I truly like about this book is that it deals with fear we knowingly or unknowingly have in our lives, and that it was written by a loving mother, a devoted wife, a passionate blogger, a podcaster, a successful business woman, and this truly intelligent soul who is not afraid to acknowledge all of her imperfections and all of her other faults she has. If anything, her acknowledgment of all of her imperfections and all of her faults made this book feel truly genuine and not too sugar-coated, and thus a truly interesting read. And all of her advice within this book is very rich with wisdom and very rich with knowledge, and with many many years of personal and professional experience. The author, who also has her own podcast somewhere out there on the world wide web, has truly made an impression on me with her life story, for it shows that it's never too late to put yourself out there, no matter what age, no matter what color, and no matter what gender you are. And especially that every fear you may knowingly or unknowingly have in your life can be beaten and you can achieve great things in your personal and professional life, for as long as you stick by your plans, your goals, and are immensely proud of all of your work and all of your remarkable achievements. "Finished Reading Add a date Review Have you ever wanted to do something only to second guess yourself? Have you ever wondered what you are capable of doing? Have you ever wondered what prevents you from doing what you truly desire to do? If so this is the book for you. Ruth Soukup does an excellent job of breaking down the archetypes that keep us paralyzed in fear and then gives strategies and suggestions for overcoming those fears. The first section of the book dives deep into the Seven Archetypes which are: the Procrastinator, The Rule Follower, The People Pleaser, The Outcast, The Self-Doubter, The Excuse Maker, and The Pessimist. She provides both the strengths and weaknesses of each type along with suggested careers for each type. After helping the reader understand their archetype, she then provides 7 tools and strategies for overcoming your fears and stepping out of your comfort zone. Too many of us get stuck because we are too paralyzed by fear to walk out in faith and challenge the status quo. The second half of this book does an amazing job of helping the reader see how to start moving and face our fears head on. She writes in an engaging manner that makes you feel as if you were actually sitting down having a conversation with her. This book will help you go from fear to faith and go for the ""Big"" dreams and desires of your heart. So if you are looking for a book to inspire, motivate, encourage you and more, check out this book for yourself. I know this book encouraged me to think about who I am, what I am afraid of and what I want from life. With a husband who is about 3 years away from retirement, I have big dreams for our future that I want to see come to life. This book is encouraging me to step out in faith and start working towards the life I want." "You'll only achieve greatness if you actually reach for it." What do we fear? And how does fear manifest itself in our lives? This book covers the seven fear archetypes and how we’re affected by them. What scares one person (rejection) isn’t the same as what scares someone else (making mistakes), so it’s good to examine our own type. Part two of the book talks about revisiting our mindset and work from a place of courage: knowing when to break the rules, realizing that mistakes are actually lessons, the value of persistence, and more. Part three reminds us of actions we can take to make our lives better. Celebrate the wins, surround ourselves with a great team, and find our “why”. I enjoyed the book. I found the fear archetypes very helpful in seeing how fear affects my life and the principles of courage reminded me that there are some things I’m already doing (and I need to celebrate those!). I feel that part three will help me continue moving forward. If you’re feeling stuck and want more from life, I recommend the book (and Ruth’s podcast!) sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
What would you do if fear no longer stood in your way? What would happen if you were no longer afraid to dive in, head first, and go after your dreams, instead of feeling like you were sitting on the sidelines of your own life? What then? We tell ourselves we are too busy to pursue our dreams. That there's no time, or that it's not practical. But what if the real reason we're putting off our goals is FEAR? The fear that we're not good enough, not smart or talented or capable enough. It's the fear that others might laugh at us, or that we'll get hurt or be rejected, or that pursuing our true potential will simply be too hard. And most of all, the fear that we'll fail. But courage doesn't mean we are never afraid. True courage means taking action, despite the fear. True courage means doing it scared. The question is - how? How do we face those fears and take that first step in the right direction? How do we overcome those obstacles that stand in our way and sometimes feel insurmountable? In Do It Scared, popular blogger and podcast host Ruth Soukup will help you to: Identify your own unique Fear Archetype? - the specific type of fear that keeps you stuck - and learn how to conquer it. Dare to start thinking bigger about your life and your goals. Learn how to seek out honest feedback to accomplish big things. Embrace the core beliefs you need to overcome different types of fears. Discover why our magical idea of 'balance' is totally overrated and let go of the guilt, once and for all.
